Wow the majority of the lights aren't just stars, they're galaxies! Incredible!
Until the 1920's, everyone believed that the Milky Way Galaxy was the extent of the Universe, and everything we see in the night sky are stars. But Edwin Hubble showed not only that most of the 'fuzzy' stars were actually galaxies, but they are all moving away from us.
We now know there are more galaxies in the Universe than stars in the Milky Way, and the further away from us they are, the faster they are moving away. This ultra deep field is expected to show Galaxies that formed 300,000,000 years after the Big Bang. Or, 13.3 billion years ago. The Universe is about 13.6 Billion years old.
How's that for a time machine?
