$1:
Only a baptized Sikh wearing all the five articles of faith will be able to wear a kirpan into an Olympic venue, and the blade can not be more than 10 centimetres long.

Not enough to just wear a turban - you are going to have to PROVE your religion. This could be a first to get into a sports venue.

To be fair, I'd have no problem with knives being allowed in, just for everyone. I carry a knife everyday, to me it's not a weapon but a tool. The problem is that theirs was designed to be specifically a weapon.

For all the fuss and muss that's made every time a kirpan is allowed at some event and / or venue I have yet to hear of an incident involving one. If there's some overwhelming evidence showing that they are being used in acts of violence on a significant scale then sure we should look at it but until then I think the whole kirpan thing gets way over blown by the media.

What people forget is that the knives are purely ceremonial and aren't sharpened. And should someone pull one out in anger then they'll have to deal with:

A) the police
B) their family (who they will need police protection from for being so goddamned stupid)
C) whatever lies in the great beyond for violating the tenets of their religion.

Canadian Sikhs blow shit up, they don't use their kirpans to kill people. Why is everyone worried?

What if they're kirpans with anti-Olympic signs on them?

There have been, in the Metropolitan Toronto area, three reported incidents of violent kirpan use. One involved a plea of guilty to attempted murder after a stabbing with a kirpan. In one street fight, a man was stabbed in the back with a kirpan. In one case, a kirpan was drawn for defensive purposes.

Considering the amount of Sikhs in Canada 3 cases is pretty slim evidence for banning them.
