Heres the kicker
City officials have said the law is intended to clamp down on so-called ambush marketing, and it includes an exception for celebratory signs, which are defined as those that celebrate the 2010 Winter Games and create or enhance a festive environment and atmosphere.
So if your signs display celebration of the Olympics you can put them up but if you want to display your feelings about the commercial political farce that is the Olympics you face fines and arrest, not to mention the police entering your home.
Is BC a fasist state now? It looks more and more like it's heading that way
Are they coming to my house becaus I've publicly stated my opposition to the olympics?

Perhaps they are taking a page from China's lead up to the games. Crack down on dissenters and protesters by rounding 'em up and making 'em, disappear. Make it look like We are all one big games lovin' Canadian Nation. (Oh ya, and the nation of Quebec too)

Supposing I want to protest about the amount of money spend on the games or the fact that women are not allowed to compete in ski jumping? This is not "ambush marketing" but it sure as hell is not "celebratory".

Am I going to end up in the clink?

When you do I bet you'll be kicking yourself that they repealed the 2 for 1 law right?

It's just proposed legislation at the moment. Does it actually have a serious spot on anyone's agenda?

So the new Olympic royalty we paid for has brought in a new Sherrif of Nottingham?
This is unacceptable. I'm not a big Olympic heretic but this pell-mell rush to silence people is very un-Canadian.

Oh shit im fucked I have had an anti-olympics banner up in my front window since it was announced....bring on the cuffs, what is the government going to do with the 'hard to place' kids I foster?????

fucking trouncing on more of our rights...this isnt about the olympics anymore, this is about being free to speak our opinions and our freedoms of being Canadians. Anyone that is against this should be putting up anti-olympic signage....how many of us will they try this with?...lets push the envelope folks.

Riden you with me on this?

Not on this one. Far too many anarchists and wingnuts are in the anti-Olympic camp for me. I don't think this can pass but it may just provoke the really dangerous folks to play their hand before the events.

It most definitely will...I think that is what they are hoping for, to tell you the truth I think it is part of the agenda just to put all us (well me for sure) anti-olympic folk in the same category as the fucktards...sorta like the uber anti-poverty folk. Nothing like confirming the 'Necessity for "Free Speech Zones"' or is that just my over paranoid brain working

So if you protest the IOC getting a special lane on the Lion's Gate, saying 'Walk or bike you lazy bastards' you'll be bum fluff for Big Bubba from Burnaby?

Yup. Exactly. This is CLEARLY an unconstitutional policy, but it doesn't matter. It gets the protesters off the street immediately and the sign down. I'm just surprised they didn't announce this the day the Olympics started instead of now. Maybe someone has time to challenge it in court before it's implemented?
