Good ridance.
I guess the union members will now just stand around on either side of the river and collect their fat paychecks untill they retire.

By the way.. what the hell is an "Albion Ferry President"? Is he elected and if so, by who?

Good riddance?

It's either go over the Port Mann or out to Abbotsford to get on the other side without paying a bloody toll. Both adding a minimum of 45 minutes to the trip. The ferry was free.

In a few years the Port Mann and Pattullo will be rebuilt and the only bridges that will not be toll are the Mission and Alex Fraser bridges.

Somebody has their head thoroughly buried up their anus.

The ferry wasn't free. Each of the 2 ferries was run by approx. 6 people per boat who were paid huge union wages to go back and forth. The cost to run the Albion Ferry is approximately $5 million a year.

You tell me which is the most cost effective.

The bridge cost over 800 million just to build with a toll that will last ~30 years. I'll take the ferry.

I'm not happy with the toll either but the ferry simply wasn't cost effective.

As it was, the money spent on the bridge would keep the EXISTING ferries running for 160 years! Double up, and it would have still been good for 80.

I'm not happy to see that ferry go, I enjoyed that little hop across the river. Although, with the amount of traffic it actually moved every day, it really wasn't efficient. They still should have kept it. Welcome back to the age of tolls.

I took my last trip a week and a half ago. I know captains and other staff who work the ferry and they are going to miss it, but I do not see why it could not be run by a private tour group. They could have a bus that goes to Haney on one end and Fort Langley on the other.

The reason that was give is that is cost to much, the insurances. More Government BS to me, 'what a private can do a better job than us'. I think it is just that Translink wants the land for the West coast Express. With Albion's increase in pop over the last few years it makes sense and the Haney station has not parking so all the cars come over to Maple Meadows.

Thus, they should let a private business try and if it can not run the ferry, then turn it into a station.

I think they should use it for one last trip with the 3000 critical mass cyclists, overtaking our streets, and dump them in the river....just a thought

I sure won't miss it at all, if your time isn't worth $2-3 for a toll rather than waiting 45min... i feel sorry for you.

I don't think the port mann will be tolled? I heard something about there has to be at least one link without a toll.

And critical mass is fun! :P

I don't know...we're all in too much of a rush now, waiting 45 minutes just might be a good thing? Good time to sit back and read a book or just sit back and watch the river for a bit.

800 million/5 million = 160 years.
What's not cost-effective?
