Buy Canadian, and stick to the water bombers manufactured by Bombardier Aerospace in Montreal!!
Let's show those Yanks that two can play at this game; they're not buying water bombers from us, so why should we buy from them?
Remember the Avro Arrow!!

Only problem there is this puppy can carry more than 10 times the load of the Bombardier 415....6,140 litres compared to 77,000 litres for the Evergreen.

Yeah, but the Bombardier CL-415 can probably make 10 passes or more to scoop up as many loads from just about any body of water, and deliver them with pinpoint accuracy to the target, in the time it takes the Evergreen to land at an airport with a runway long enough to accomodate a jumbo-jet, be tanked up once, take off and reach it's target.
The CL-415 is the only amphibious firefighting aircraft in the world specifically designed and built for that purpose!

Evergreen aviation played a huge part in Air America during the Vietnam war, among a great number of things. It's a very unique company and their museum is a must see for aviation buffs. They finally have the Spruce Goose on display.

Converting a 747 for water bomber duties seems like the worst possible option to me. It's like trying to convince someone that a Lamborghini LP670 would make a great commuter vehicle. The cost to purchase, fly and maintain one of them would probably be the equivalent of purchasing a small fleet of the ones Bombardier puts out. Plus the nearest airport that can service the plane maybe be several hundred kilometers from the fire. I can't believe someone thought this was a good business idea, especially in the current economic situation.

It's too big for most firebases to use anyways.

$1:
"First of all, the type and size of air tanker that would be needed. Currently our bases would not sustain an aircraft of that size," she said.

The province also attacks fires when they are newly detected and smaller in size, Drummond said. The province's smaller planes are more easily manoeuvrable through the foothills and mountainous areas in Alberta, she said.

As the video suggested, a couple would do and they would use air force bases that are liberally spread around the US. Do remember, this is a US idea, not Canadian.

yea, we haven't had an abundant number of airbases in our country since WWII. And even those can't all handle a 747 should they all be reactivated.

But it is an idea they are trying to sell to us. Water bombers based at USAF installations in the states are not that useful to us.

Who is? Schreiber? :D

It's way too big for one province so maybe if Alberta and BC shared it..
Bottom line is that water bombers are rin by private companies so it's their call.
