This irritates me to the Nth degree. It's the MEXICAN border that needs this treatment and those should be armed to dealo with the drug lords.

I believe this is an insult to Canada and Canadians.

Tell that to the Obama government.
There is still a great deal of illegal cross border traffic, be it human or drug smuggling. As this is happening in Ontario, you can just bet that this is centered around the indian reservtions.
The border already has cameras so this one is just a little hugher, that's all.

It actually doesn't offend me in the least other than the fact that your money is being wasted on propaganda that is meant to lull your citizens into a false sense of security. Kind of like watching your friend buy a sports car for driving on dirt roads when all he really needs is a pick up truck. The upside is that if I can ever see one taking pictures.............I hope they like the Moon!! [but]

So these 'spy planes' can...spy how far into Canadian territory and why isn't the air force patrolling our borders against this threat or isn't it a threat simply because its our great ol friend who uses spy planes? Wait, we can't, the U.S would instantly know what we are doing.

When the King of England was granting colonies to settle North America, he granted James Oglethorpe charter to colonize Georgia...as a haven for debtors. The King figured he'd get rid of a bunch of worthless deadbeats and clean out the jails. At the same time, fearing war with Spain, the King figured if war did come, his other colonial interests would be buffered from Spanish aggression, northward from Florida, by these poor sods who'd mismanaged their finances. Georgia was a human shield. If you Yanks want to spend a gazillion dollars to guard the border and be "Our Georgia", knock yourselves out.

It does say in the article that the predators are flying along the Mexican border too. But I agree with you, I think it's an insult.

$1:
......and a planned 45-per-cent increase in U.S. border guards along the northern frontier by fall 2010.

Since when did Canada become America's northern frontier?

I'm not amused.

They can only see as far as the curvature of the earth at whatever altitude they are flying up to and include the border.

We don't seem to give a rats ass about what enters the US from Canada so it's no wonder they want beef up security. Look at our pathetic drug enforcement. Canada is a major player in illegal drugs and we don't hold the criminals accountable. It's no wonder the RCMP pass off tips that result in crooks being caught by the US.
In the US, they'll get punishment while in Canada, if their arrested, they'll get a slap on the wrist.

This is probably the most effective way of watching such a huge area.
