It is called a "crumple" zone so the car and not the passenger absorb the impact. I remember dad complain that cars in the 50's , 60's and 70's were so much stronger but the occupants died a lot more also.

Agreed. The whole point of this article is related to cost of repair and has nothing to do with safety. You can write of the whole car if my family member comes out without injury.

$1:
New ratings system: These are the first bumper test results released under a new Institute ratings protocol that's based on repair costs averaged and weighted to reflect real-world damage patterns.

The Chev Aveo only rates as acceptable and marginal in safety tests, whereas the Toyota Yaris and the Mini Cooper rate as good.

Here's my new 'small car'. You don't hit things with it. If something tries to hit you, you get out of the way. If you nail a moose at 80kmh, you're dead that's all there is to it.
The rest of you can much a Big Mac, yak on the cell phone and hope $25,000 worth of springs, bumpers & airbags will save ya... LOL
EDIT... try that attachment again.... WTF??

Just came back from a 20 mile run on the local quad trails... my lift kit is in Tuesday and a set of tires & rims.
Oh yeah, and the magnetic signs because it's a "work truck" heh heh...
