He seems to have a hard time equating concessions with job retention. And that no concessions means no jobs. His precious benefits are useless when the workers they cover don't have jobs to go to.

I point a good portion of the auto industries troubles Hargrove's way. He was one of the most un-flexible, arrogant union leaders I can remember.

I am sorry but someone with a High School education standing on an assembly line should not be making $35 an hour and considered 'skilled' labour.

Hence, look at what it got the auto industry.

These companies were in trouble long before last October.

I would argue that the Union artificially inflated the workers' wages far above what standard market value for their skills dictated. Hence, why other auto makers such as Toyota paid their workers less and were still able to fill all of their positions. The wages of the CAW were far above what their companies could support and eventually contributed in part to their demise in the long run.

How suddenly did truthful statements become "conservative viewpoints"...or have conservative viewpoints always been truthful?

Auto workers wages and benefits are currently in cloud cuckoo land, time for a reality check.

While I believe that CAW wages are too high, it can't all be blamed on labour rates.
We all agree that labour is somewhere between 7 and 14% of an autos cost.
A 5% decrease in that cost only amounts to a concession.

The real problem is management.
These guys running a company that size, and making the money they make, should be a bit smarter.
Chrysler and GM going bankrupt has nothing to do with labour rates. Its the way the companies were run.

Somebody at the top should be strung up for all of this
