Why should NL put any faith in the federal government to act in the best interest of the province in negotiations with the EU? Past history has shown that in these types of arrangements, NL always (without fail) comes out on the losing end. Do you really think Harper is going to go to bat for NL on the seal ban issue? Do you think Harper and his cronies are going to address the high seafood tariffs on our behalf? I fear that the $1.5 billion clawback made during the latest budget would pale in comparision to the loses we would incur by letting our divisive leader (Harper) negotiate for us.

This might be the first major step in distancing ourselves further from Canada and charting a course of our own. Where do I sign up?

Ruez, I bow in your general direction. I feel so grateful to be in your wonderful prescence. *smirk*

Stay tuned. The 1949 experiment is coming to a close.

At this point I don't care. You don't like it leave. After listening to Quebec bitch as long as I've been alive I'm tired of provinces that cry because they want more and more. I want a stronger CAnada. If that means we need to cut some dead weight then so be it.

I guess it is the size of the country that makes Provinces to separate... I just don't get it... :?
Be freakin proud of this great country, not just of your square km...

Welcome to Canada Brenda, where many people choose to put Provincial pride over National pride. And also where basically every province and territory is big enough to be it's own country...

I once wanted a stronger Canada too, until I woke up and realized it's a pipe dream that will never happen. Oh, it might have happened if the system worked according to plan. But a central government that serves to strengthen areas like Ontario and Alberta while Atlantic Canada scrambles to gather the few scraps that trickle down from above...well you can keep that Canada. It does nothing to build cohesion, it does nothing to foster strength and stability. It does, however, serve to divide and create discension. A quick browse through CKA bears that out completely.

So now I'm fighting for a better future for my home province. A future that doesn't rely on the whims and political manoeverings of a federal government.
