Good thing the US didn't. Reasonable levels of Inspection/Regulation is the only way to ensure Food Safety.

Yes...we also might have liked the USA to stop pretending it had no cases of Mad Cow a few years ago, rather than their using the highly effective backhoe-and-quicklime "who....me ?" technique.

Nice. I'm sure when it comes to standardizing regulations in the food industry, consumers would rather see the more stringent guidlines accepted.
