If they are as important as he says, why aren't we buying better icebreakers so we can patrol year-round?

It's breaking up in the sense that the anual summer thaw is coming. Will it break up past the level of last year's melt which was a record for the period since 1979 of the satellite record?

If we believe the mainstream media hysteria that's a given. If however, we pay attention to what real world science is suggesting, that's not necessarily the case. Since last year Ocean oscillations have shifted. The PDO is in it's cold phase. This should have an effect on the arctic melt. The Northwest passage has opened up before. As recently as 1942. It refroze. Maybe we should wait, and see what happens this year. If the ice pack doesn't melt past last year's level that may be an indication arctic cooling is coming. The lengthening of the current solar cycle also suggests this may be possible.

Good idea. We can dyke off the Passage and build a Railroad!

I think the US would be happey with extending the current borders for both Canada and Russia. Two straight lines up to the North Pole. The US hasn't done too much to claim anything yet.
