"'The truth is that there is already a layer of filtering . . . for things that contravene the criminal code,' Cronenberg said of the current laws for applying for film tax credits."

And that's really all we need. We don't need a bunch of tightasses shoving their narrow views on the film industry.

Yes, this really brings to light this pathological and paranoid need the Conservatvies have to control the message. On the other hand, I'm surprised Cronenberg even needs funding of any kind--I thought that his films were generally pretty successful at teh box office.

That was the same reaction and the same bill that the Martin government came up with when the Bernardo movie was being discussed. In fact, this bill is almost word for word what the martin government never got a chance to enact.

It's a simple matter that if you want public money for a film, you must meet the guidelines, be them set by the Martin/Harper or independant regulators.

I don't want EITHER'S "independant [sic] regulators" deciding what's in good taste. Art is art. Provide funding to all, or none. Don't foist your tastes on everyone.

De gustibus non disputandum.

I don't need to. It's quite clear.
Cronenberg can bitch all he wants and can fund all the crap instead of the taxpayers.
