Odd that everyone is so concerned about what Huawei might do, but ignore what Google and Facebook actually do.

Huawei (with Chinese government approval) sent advanced processors to Iran which the Iranians will use to improve their nuclear weapons program and improve the accuracy of their missiles. The USA is no longer run by the Clintons and Obamas who used to turn a blind eye to this kind of thing.

It is alleged that Meng Wanzhou used Hong Kong company Skycom to access the Iranian market in deals that violated US sanctions.
American officials are attempting to prevent the 46-year-old executive being bailed from a Canadian court after she was charged with conspiracy to defraud multiple financial institutions between 2009 and 2014.
It is alleged she used Hong Kong company Skycom to access the Iranian market in deals that violated US sanctions.
She allegedly assured US banks that Huawei and Skycom were different companies but prosecutors say they were one and the same.
Meng was arrested in Vancouver on 1 December and appeared in one of the city's courts on Friday, where prosecutor John Gibb-Carsley asked the judge to deny her application for bail.
He said that the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei had substantial financial resources and was a flight risk.

What I'm referring to is 3 of the '5 Eyes' have banned Huawei equipment for their 5G wireless networks on the suspicion that data will be sent back to the Chinese government. Google and Facebook already do that, to themselves and many governments.

It's not a mere suspicion that Huawei is gathering intel for the ChiComs.
They build transponders right into their equipment and DoD will go nuts if you bring any of their kit into a DoD facility.

And they still allow Android phones, even though Google has admitted they track you even when you turn tracking off. Facebook deep dives your contacts, emails and texts. What could go wrong? I've been more and more reluctant to give up old equipment that still works, because my trust in newer equipment is slowly eroding. Not just because of flaws that lead to vulnerabilities, but things put there deliberately. Like the recent drama with SuperMicro and Chinese based data centers.

The USA is no longer run by the Clintons and Obamas who used to turn a blind eye to this kind of thing. The possibility of a nuclear war with Iran isn’t exactly keeping me up at night. Huawei do a whole lot worse than that around the world. From a Canadian viewpoint, the Chinese govt have even less reason now to help us with our fentanyl crisis.

China is just pissed because they have no separation between the Military, Police and Communist party. So the Party can order whatever it wants from the others, no laws preventing it. They don't get that we can't do that, so her arrest or release should be a political move in their eyes. But they will only take their anger out on a like for like basis. Only prime political people of similar status would be targets. The average tourist would be fine.
