Not a lot of meat in the story you posted. All questions, like why is the FBI closing it? Why would they evacuate nearby residents?

It just looks at the sun. What could possibly go wrong?

Rather than muse about why the observatory closed we should be following the astronomers around to see if they're making their final preparations for human extinctions.

Made me look.

First, the FBI really did shut down the site and another story pointed out that the street view of the facility on Google Earth is now unavailable.

Maybe the NSO discovered the sun is about to have some sort of major event and they got shut down to prevent a panic.

I do recall a week or so back that the NSO had discussed the possibility of a coronal mass ejection coming towards the earth this week or next...maybe that was it?

I just expected it would mean a really cool time to see the northern lights.
