This one is a bit tough, I think if I read a little between the lines; is sounds sort of like well, this is the police version, so we can't do much.

There isn't much information being made public, but if I was one of the two people who got shot because this cop unloads 6 rounds and only two hit the perp, then I would be looking at suing.

You can't tell me that shooting two other people because the cop missed isn't getting pretty close to incompetence if not plain negligence.

The sooner all the beat cops start wearing body cams the better.

$1:
“Although the officers commanded him to drop the syringe, he remained unresponsive, non-communicative, and seemingly unaware.”

Meaning he wasn't doing anything that posed an immediate threat to anyone but he also wasn't immediately complying with the commands of Those Who Shall Be Obeyed.

$1:
One police officer fired a Taser at Heffernan but it didn’t work. As a second officer was preparing to hit Heffernan again with a Taser, another officer fired his gun six times.

“The subject officer made a quick decision in a volatile and rapidly unfolding situation to use his service firearm in order to defend against Mr. Heffernan,” said a statement from the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.

“The evidence would be that he did so as a defensive action against an individual who was armed with a syringe, and who had been either unwilling or unable to comply with police directions..

So if someone is unable to comply with police orders then that's justification for the use of lethal force?

So retards, Alzheimers' patients, deaf people, people in persistent vegetative states, dead people...all of them are at risk from stupid fucking assholes with guns and badges?

You might have missed the couple stories last week where people called Ambulances for their loved ones having violent epileptic seizures, and the cops came and beat the shit out of them instead.

I suppose we might want to move the 'Police Abuse' topic from the US Politics forum since you folks have this problem, too. R=EM

It's pretty rare though. People are pissed off because of this incident too.

I'm pissed off, too. This is disgusting that these rabid fucking dogs can't shift from "must beat and kill" mode to helping people who need help.

I read that he lunged at them with the syringe but it's not mentioned in this article. Part of Cop's story?

Tricks Tricks:

They also emptied the 14 shot clip into him, but only 4 connected. Which means 10 rounds were available to hit other guests in the hotel. Also not in this story. [huh]

I also heard on the news that the reason there are no charges is because the Crown didn't think there was a reasonable chance of conviction. Not that the cops didn't do wrong, just that the Crown can't prove it.

That doesn't really mean anything tho. Happens all the time. From it you can't say much either way.

Isn't this Alberta? Y'all have the same system we have, where the crown lays the charges, not the cops? I thought we were the only province with this system. Anyway, you can take the non-charging in many ways, from there is scant evidence for wrongdoing, to the crown just doesn't see it enough of a slam dunk to be worth pursuing.

I thought all provinces worked this way? Cops recommend charges, but the Crown decides whether to pursue them or not.

Yea, a non-charge is kind of banal. It could mean nothing happened, it could mean noting can be proved. But 10 stray shots vs a possible 'lunging' with a syringe . . . makes you go . . . hmmmmm.

Kinda makes you wonder if the cops at the scene haven't all come down with a case of selective amnesia. :?

Could've been worse. The junkie could've been black.

Cause apparently black lives matter.
