The deadline for replacing a candidate passed Monday, which means her name will remain on the ballot.

Earlier this week, a Liberal candidate who expressed skepticism about the Sept. 11 attacks in the U.S. resigned as the candidate in the B.C. riding of Cowichan-Malahat-Langford.

That's 2 in one week.

Vote Liberal, vote often.

Just imagine the laughs if she won the riding.

Not really an issue for the Lib's. Victoria is a pretty staunch NDP riding so her resignation isn't likely to change sweet fuck all except to expose another potential MP who would have been more at home saying "do you want fries with that" rather than "Hi, I'm your member of Parliament.

Same thing goes with that twit Maria Manna who was running in the newly formed Cowichan-Malahat-Langford riding which was part of another NDP stronghold that elected Jean Crowder in the last election.

So really despite being 0 for 2 the Liberals chances of either of them having been elected was slim to none at best.

We need to revoke authority from party leaders to remove party nomination. Once a riding association has granted the nomination, the leader cannot revoke it.

In 2008 Leslie Hughes lost her nomination. The accusation was she made antisemitic comments several years prior. That accusation was a lie. Reality is Leslie did very well, had received donations from the Jewish community, so another candidate in Winnipeg was jealous that this other candidate received less donation money. So this second candidate released the rumour just to get donation money back. Liberal leader Stéphane Dion revoked Leslie's nomination without talking to Leslie, without hearing her side of the story, and without even informing her of his decision. Reporters caught up to Leslie while she was campaigning door-to-door and handed her the official announcement. Leslie sued, and won. Leslie had to mortgage her house to pay legal expenses. The law suit awarded forced the Liberal party to pay Leslie for those legal expenses, and ordered Stéphane Dion to issue a formal apology. That apology was published in the Globe and Mail. Lots of people heard of the Liberal party revoking Leslie's nomination, but I only met one voter who isn't part of a party who read that apology.

When Michael Ignatieff was leader, Ruby Dhalla was attacked. If you believe the accusations, it means a third party was guilty, not Ruby. And the accusations were highly suspect; those making the accusations were trying to coerce money. Ruby wasn't kicked out of caucus, but did have her critic role revoked. She lost the immediately following election. Ruby was a prime part of Michael's team, she was his right-hand woman.

Justin Trudeau kicked out of caucus two MPs who were accused by the NDP of sexual harassment. One of the NDP MPs was interviewed and stated that she was drunk and willingly went to he Liberal MPs hotel room. She went into the hotel bathroom and was going to leave, but when she came out she "was into it" and decided to stay. She admitted she handed him a condom. That isn't harassment, that's consensual sex between two consenting adults. Kicking an MP out of caucus for that is entirely inappropriate.

Every election since 2004 the Conservatives have attacked at least one Liberal candidate. The Liberal leader has fallen for the scam. The Liberal party appears to think this exonerates the party. It doesn't. When someone resigns over an accusation it's treated as a confession of guilt. This isn't the 1800s where someone can clear their name, this is the 21st century. Once someone is painted guilty in the media, they're permanently guilty. You can't clear your name after you confess guilt, and resigning is treated as a confession of guilt. And when one candidate is removed, either by resigning or being kicked out, the entire party is painted with that brush. This doesn't clear anyone's name. The correct response is to leave the candidate in place and clear that person's name.
