The $43 trillion US estimate is in addition to previous studies, which have put the economic impacts of climate change at more than $300 trillion by the year 2200.

That's why it's economically responsible to fix our contribution to the problem as soon as possible. Perhaps we won't fix it completely, but at least the environment will be better for it.

$43 trillion for thawing permafrost? Can't we find a cheaper source of thawed permafrost? :D

The article says most of the impact will be on poorer countries, so maybe we could just say primae noctis them and keep on spewing. After all, think of all the real estate this will open up, beach front homes by the arctic ocean, swim with the dolphins. All we need to do is figure out how to keep all those skeezy climate change refugees, like the Americans, out of our country. We'll give em Regina, I figure.
