$1: The planes departure several hours later with 96 evacuees capped days of tension among travellers angered at their treatment by local Canadian diplomats. A few dozen Americans allowed onto the flight, meanwhile, were elated that Ottawa would fly them out for free, on a plane filled with bearded trekkers and families wrangling strollers, all seeking safer ground This paragraph speaks volumes about the self entitled assholes who think that they can traipse the world with impunity and the Canadian Gov't will suddenly be obliged to move mountains to save them when they find themselves in trouble. I wonder how many of those Canadian Officials had family members and friends who were, killed, injured or missing in the aftermath of the disaster? Not that it would matter to the elitists. At least the Americans appreciated the fact that we flew them out for free.

We have for decades reduced our footprint on the planet.
It's days like this when that chicken comes home.

They're leaving one of the poorest places on Earth, teaming with a population in dire need and all that they can think about is themselves. They probably complained about the cold Camembert and broken crackers in their CF box lunches, as well. Leave those assholes behind and make them work to help the really poor and unfortunate people who have no way out. Spoiled rotten ...

They should send them all a bill for the transport... you think they were angry before.

raydan raydan: They should send them all a bill for the transport... you think they were angry before. It reminds me of that evacuation of Beirut a decade plus ago when "that woman" was interviewed pier side in some Mediterranean safe haven after her emergency sealift, complaining about the Canadian government ... "THE SERVICE WAS LOOOUSY!". I can still see her ugly, feckin' Lebanese face saying that on camera. I hope that they revoked her passport.

Oh the outrage of those who can't afford a holiday to the 'elitists' who can. Our govt relies on miserable old farts like you to justify itself. As I mentioned in another thread, I've got relatives there on their honeymoon. Uber-jocks who hiked a group out from camp to a remote village. And yesterday he RAN the 27km back to camp carrying & retrieving supplies in his backpack twice. They heard of the plane out just yesterday, but no way to get to Katmandu yet. Other countries didn't need to assess things before they sent their equivalent to our DART team, they sent them right away. Our embassies and the foreign office have always been slow, shackled and a near joke compared to other nations. Witness the ongoing debacle with Fahmy in Egypt. Or on today of all days, look at how the USA evacuated our ambassador, citizens and reporters 40 years ago when Saigon fell. Check CBC for that story and you'll recognize some names. Freakingoldguy would probably agree - too bad they should've left Mike Duffy on the embassy roof and took a deserving Vietnamese instead! Canada has not done enough for Nepal yet, and matching private donations dollar for dollar isn't even close to good enough!

Chatter has it that the US aid operation is running mostly out of Afghanistan and, to their credit, Pakistan, China, and India are allowing USAF transports to cross heavily disputed airspace without more than a flight plan and having their transponders on. All three get a from me!

Yeah, yeah
"WHY DOESN'T THE GOVERNMENT DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!"
Oh the outrage of those who can't afford a holiday to the 'elitists' who can. You're right. I think that those assholes who think that they are God's gift and that they MUST be served are outrageous...scum of the Earth.

Vancouver's HUSAR team has once again been ignored, even tho they were ready and eager to go. Compare that to Katrina, when they were the fist team to go to the hardest hit area. We do seem to like to fuss and fiddle instead of getting on the job. OTOH, this is a third world country, where Canada has no official representation. You go there, you can't just expect to get 1st world service. If you're on a plane, alive and heading home, be grateful. My adventures took place mostly in Canada, but they could have resulted in my needing to be rescued. You can be sure I would be very grateful if I had been, since I always went in with the idea that it was up to me to get myself out - but sometimes shit happens.

I think 40 years ago he was only 600 lbs. Here's my niece's last post. Made it to Katmandu today. $1: Here in Kath one more day. As u can imagine plans/flights even for most organized teams are fluid. we are so lucky. We are safe and well taken care of, happy to hear of people being found alive in rubble continue to be reported! My thoughts are with those in remote areas, the villages we hiked through that were destroyed which can only accessed by foot or sometimes helicopter. They have a lot of rebuilding to do. Also with all those stranded in lukla facing corrupt local systems as they try to just get home. Heres to sunny days, many flights, and people getting one step closer to being home! Trade & Consular services is exactly what govt is supposed to do, and I realize they had none in Nepal. Those that got flown out should realize they got out to New Delhi faster than the consular staff got in. But that isn't anything to brag about

BeaverFever BeaverFever: "Canadian Plane Picks up Angry Passengers?" Why can't Sunwing keep itself out of the news? That was funny but I've personally had nothing but good experiences with Sunwing. Maybe I just got lucky.
