The Gripen has significant US content. The Americans will still make money.

Dassault sounds butthurt.

The NSA thing is hurting American business worldwide. Of course, nothing will be done to dial down the NSA's activities so the USA will continue on our long descent into authoritarianism.

To be fair, Bush bears more of the responsibility for the NSA abuse than does Obama. Although it is now Obama's job to end the Patriot Act.

Yes, I'm certain that there wouldn't have been a single conservative or neo-con right-winger that would have classlessly started screaming "weak on terror! weak on terror!" if President Obama had moved to gut the NSA or Patriot Act before the Snowden treason occurred. Just like all the right wingers were against drone strike from 2003 through 2008.

Do we really have to keep playing this game? Really?

You know what? You're right.

But given that Obama didn't care about moving forward with Obamacare despite not one single Republican supporting it then he has no excuse for not standing up to the Republicans again to get rid of the Patriot Act.

And, by the way, he'd be supported by the Tea Party if he did this.

The NSA wouldn't let them, anyway. I have a feeling that all of this has a life of it's own, now and it has slipped the bonds of political control. We will be under constant, detailed serveillence far into the future.

There's so much progress in a country that can't even get past a 2-party system...
