It's good that Justice is put back into the hands of Judges, not Parliament.

DrCaleb DrCaleb:

As long as the judges aren't the bleeding heart liberal types, yeah.

But if/when there's a predominance of them presiding over courtrooms, mandatory minimums are almost a defence mechanism to prevent "sentences" like a year's house arrest for infanticide.
Although I do agree that judges should have some wiggle room when it comes to handing down sentences.

had an innocent been struck by one of these random shots, would 4 years have been sufficient? If he was being threatened, assaulted and intimidated, and nothing was being done about it by police, then there's a major failing that requires investigation.

In Canada you can't shoot at someone invading your own home without being charged and dragged into court.

Yet this guy grabs a rifle, shoots up a house not knowing who was inside, and the judge twists himself in knots to portray him as the victim?

Even if the accusations of him being picked on were true, does it justify a shooting up a house?

Just declare him NCR, get him some mandatory counseling. Jail time is just too mean!

Yeah I don't think the fact he was bullied means he should get away with special treatment. Maybe if he fought back in the process of being bullied or something but he was not being confronted while sitting at home polishing his rifle then heading out to hunt these guys down. Maybe people get harassed and picked on but don't resort to shooting up someone's house. This judge is supporting vigilantism and revenge attacks. Good job!
