Well, he's certainly pretty, which bodes well for TV and the 21st century, but the real question is whether or not he knows anything...time will tell I guess.

He'll win. The Liberals have no one else of note in reserve.

Scary eh?

I'm not a Trudeamainac at all, but it's a pretty shallow talent pool right now. They could do worse.

There's nothing wrong with him running for the leadership, or any of the other possible candidates for that matter. The fact is that the Liberal party needs a new leader and next April they will choose who they want to lead them into the next election. We shall wait and see what happens with that.

Then everyone can have a good old time slamming whoever it is that wins.

Realistically, they've got no one else.

And now, there won't be anyone interesting to join in.

Anyone got a recipe for Canadian Coronation Chicken ?

If Justin plays this right, he'll be PM someday.

Substance in politics doesn't matter. If he can present well and bring forth even the illusion of change, it'll dig the Liberals out of the basement and perhaps into government.

In the event of a Tory loss in the next election:

Justin Trudeau would be superior as PM when compared to an ideologue nutcase like Thomas Mulcair. Trudeau Jr isn't insane. Mulcair is.

The Liberals would be superior as the governing party to the NDP. The Liberals are merely Liberals, with all the goofiness and potential for corruption that automatically follows them. The Liberals aren't insane, they're merely self-serving. But they won't wreck the country if they gain control, no matter how mad we get at them for any of the stupid crap they'd implement. The NDP are hardcore leftist psychopaths, and now they're controlled by the very worst of Quebec's left-wing Marxists. And they will wreck the country if they gain control.

Pragmatism dictates that the least worst possible outcome is usually preferable in all scenarios. I won't like a Trudeau/Liberal victory, but I wouldn't be genuinely horrified by it in the way I certainly will be in the event of a Mulcair/NDP one.

I think the chances of seeing the NDP at the head of the table get less on a daily basis.

Jack was the reason that party moved into the position it was and Thomas is just moving is back to the distant 3rd party they once were.

I cringe for the Liberal party when the best they have is someone of relation to a former PM without much actual experience.

If he gets the leadership job for the party it will be interesting to see him handle the media and debates but I wouldn't hold my breath for the liberal party surviving if he does not do a far better job then his two predecessors. Dion and Iggy were bad enough.

I cringe for Canadians who vote for people not based on experience, facts or policy but because of how someone is presented and presents themselves in the media.

Elections are won and lost on sound bites and the perception of the public.

And this is what worries me. Chances are the libs will come back soon and become the government in waiting. And I just don't have much faith that Trudeau is any deeper than he appears.

It's entirely possible that if he wins and the conservatives hold onto to power for another 3-4 years Justin will grow into a man of substance and eventually be a not horrible possibility as PM.
