My favourite quote from the article:
---------------------------------------------
"We should believe in self determination and act as democrats here in the G20."

Aides said Mr Cameron gave a "clear and calm message" which he repeated three times as his words were interpreted into Spanish. Ms Fernandez is said to have responded with "ramblings".
-----------------------------------------------

Let's just hope these ramblings don't lead to violent action by the Argentines against the Falklands and the United Kingdom...
Well done on Cameron's part. :D

You'd like to think so, but I doubt it. Even when the referendum is in favour of staying with the UK, the nut jobs in Argentina will still not be satisfied.

Had to laugh at the Argentines criticising UK colonialism. Seeing as it was Spanish colonialism that created Argentina as it is today.

$1:
"After years of acting as a colonial power they have forgotten that they are responsible for the existence of colonialism, and that it is countries like Argentina that defeated most of the colonial projects in the world," said Mr Timmerman.

Meanwhile Argentina has waged war on her neighbors over the years in its own pursuits of imperialism. Paraguay was gang raped by Brazil, Uruguay, and Argentina in the 1800's. In that century they also waged war on Peru, Chile, and Bolivia. They seized the Patagonia from the natives and slaughtered them in order to annex more territory. Again in the 1970's they engaged in a low-intensity border war with Chile over some islands and territory in the Straits of Magellan which accomplished nothing and Chile still controls the strait.

In the 1800's they also made an attempt to seize California from Spain and succeeded in briefly occupying the territorial capital of Monterey. No kidding.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nicolas-m ... 32952.html

In 1842 a second attempt by an Argentine force to seize California occured when an irregular Argentine privateer (absent a letter of marque) again seized Monterey only to be sent packing by a US Pacific squadron that stopped into Monterey on a port-of-call.

So they're not entirely innocent in their imperial ambitions.

As to what that douchbag Fernandez did at the G20 it's a shame that the UK didn't have a female PM who could've slapped the b*tch down.

So if the Argies' beef is colonialism, as they claim, why doesn't the UK just give the Falkland Islands their independence? As an independent state, the UN Charter would put the Falklands on equal footing with Argentina. They could then negotiate whatever treaties they want with the UK (or Argentina, for that matter) regarding national defense, free-trade, etc. This would put an end to all of Argentina's sabre-rattling...unless they're completely full of shit about their motives for seeking control of the islands.

The possibility of massive oil fields in the region will guarantee the Argies continued aggression.

If the real concern is oil, and of course it is, wouldn't the Falklands (and the UK also) benefit from establishing a UN-recognized 200 mile exclusive economic zone around the islands? Nation status for the Falklands would create that.

The only thing that Argentina would understand is a salvo of guided missiles fired from a British warship. Then Fernandez might get the message at that point.

That would even send a clearer explanation of PM Camerons position.

I'd guess they are happy with the status quo, and no one has brought it up.

Good to see Cameron do this. I was beginning to worry that the last living British Conservative PM with any balls was still Margaret Thatcher.

There was a follow-up article on the BBC illustrating the differences between 1980 and now in terms of British defences and Argentine capabilities. There's been a generational change in technology since then and the advantage is clearly in favour of the UK. And as opposed to 1980 today the islands are well-garrisoned with a large and well-equipped military base. Fernandez de Kirchner is only mouthing off in order to distract from her own disasterous administration of the Argentine government. Odds are that this nonsense will come to a quick conclusion once the Argie voters turf her sorry ass out of office.

Given their ability to surrender so easily I doubt much of the Aryan blood spread out at all from the German enclave to mix with the locals. Typical non-US Latinos, all macho when it comes to mouthing off but very little else of any worth or substance.
