i find this whole thing to be a little ridiculous and a huge distraction from real issues. i think the bart simpson guy is right, if one holy book can be burned, so can the other. so that rules out "hate speech" because christianity is literally ridiculed on television, films, and print on a daily basis. If some obscure pastor in gainesville florida with a grand following of FIFTY people wants to go out to their local bookstore, buy 50 korans and burn them....who cares? they are their books let them do what they want with them.
this has only gotten out of hand because of the attention the media has
chosen to give it. that is the only reason why anyone around the world even knows about this. they are to blame for publicizing such a moronic event. they put the spot light on him and handed him the microphone, as if they wanted this to blow up into some gigantic world-wide scandal.
furthermore... how can the president, petraeus et al actually tell him that burning this book will endanger lives? sure, that might happen...but what about all the lives they put in danger? who started this war? who continues it? who sends drones into pakistan and constantly kills civilians? i think these things put soldiers' lives in a great deal more peril than burning a god damned book in florida! if there were no soldiers there in the first place, they would all be much much safer.
and unfortunately, because everyone is caught up on the idea of hate speech and the further curtailing of our liberties, no one is asking these questions
we all fail.
