That will be where the real horror stories lie, in the developing countries. It's bad enough what they get caught for in North America or Europe where their power over the governments has been dramatically reduced over the last century. But I can only imagine the endless list of centuries-long nightmarish things they've been doing in Central and South America where the church has been firmly ensconced in the social and government power system for the five hundred-plus years since the Spanish and Portuguese first arrived.
You hit the nail on the head! The Catholic Church's virtual monopoly over Latin America and the Philippines is frightening. This abuse and cover up from the church has been going on for far too long. Whenever accusations are made about a priest, the church just sends the priest to another location out of the range of the prosecuting authority. Helping the wicked escape prosecution has long been a part of the Catholic church. Its a well known fact that the Catholic church helped smuggle nazis out of Europe after WW2. What I do not understand is how any church can be its own government, issue its own passports (as in aiding child molesters escaping prosecution), use diplomatic immunity to shield child molesters, etc., etc. Its ridiculous. It would be like the Mormons claiming that Salt lake city is its own government entity. No other church has this kind of power. No church should have this kind of power. Its time for the countries of the world to quit recognizing the Catholic church as its own entity. Stop recognizing their passports. Stop having diplomatic relations with a church for crying out loud. Lets get back to separation of church and state. Its time to apply some real pressure to the top of this organization. The fish rots from the head.
