Agreed.

But there's a different tone with the Tories and the Libs. The Libs were (some still are) bordering on anti-military. Decade of darkness and all that.

The Tories are more indifferent but seem to see the CF as a necessary evil. Like car insurance.

if Justin wants to make any headway with voters who are fiscal conservatives, who IMHO comprise the bulk of Canadian voters, he really has to distance himself from this merger mumbo jumbo with the NDPQ. It has to be clearly stated that the Liberals are not another shade of the NDP and that they aren't radicals. A return to a platform that straddles both the right and left of the centre, and not just as a left of centre party might help. This will take votes away from both Mad Mulcair and Secretive Steve A more Martinesque approach to economics, and fewer closed door cabals is what Canadians want.

I agree Shep. I voted Tory as they are the least shite of a shit bunch. A decent centerist message from the right leader would get 60-70 % of Canadians.

This Trudeau guy isn't the one. Wander the earth like Cain, Liberals.

I wouldn't even go that far.

Gunnair Gunnair:
The CPC has not been a boon to the military by a long shot either.

Can you give some examples of that? I doubt Peter MacKay is going to get a good bye standing in front of a dumpster.

Failing F35 project

Failed JSS project

Failed Army truck project

Badly delayed Cyclone Project

Badly detailed fixed wing SAR project

Grossly Overpriced Chinook project

AOPs slush breakers - underwhelming and behind schedule

Do you need more?

I should have said grossly delayed Cyclone project - those same Sikorskys like the one that crashed off NFL...

Oops...and that non existent northern deep water base.

Oh...and that 10% budget cut with more to come.

Yep, they love the CF.

I have to give the liberals credit for being up front about not liking the military. The Tories pretend to be friends and patrons of the armed forces, while they nickel and dime the DND

All pin-able on the CPC save for the Cyclones. The entire Sea King replacement program is a fuck up that lies 100% in the Liberal camp. Chretien screwed up the original replacement program in '93 and Martin's government inked the Cyclone contract in '04.

For the CPC to cancel it and redo the procurement process over from scratch would have delayed the Sea King replacement even more than it already has been. I doubt the Sea Kings have much time left.

The CPC has not done enough to move it along beyond its current glacial pace...

Justin Trudeau... too young, too inexperienced, and too much fluff (not just the hair).

Of course at my age I guess I'm not the average voter any more.

Nope.

I guess we need more rich 75 year olds trying connect with today's youth?

I'm actually quite happy that the "youth" vote never really materializes. If it did we'd end up with nothing but NDP governments all the time and we'd be a fiscal basketcase along the lines of Greece or Spain. Seriously, I can't stand the way the Americans do things with the irresponsible anarcho-capitalism and the endless hero-worship of a pack of slimy robber-barons but the counterpoint to that kind of economic behaviour is just as bad.
