No way of being able to afford any gadgets when your family income is less than $20/hr. Yer lucky if you can afford a roof over your head.

But many low income people like that have all the gadgets. How?

Most live with someone, not on their own and their cost of living isn't that expensive.

I don't know how. I am talking about a family, with kids, not about a single person.

C'mon Brenda, all that credit card debt isn't just from the middle class.
It ain't just the middle class buying up the new game consoles the second they come out. It ain't just the middle and upper class that's buying all those new, overpriced Apple products, etc, etc.

Another one eh? It's about priorities andy. If you have a spouse and kids and are making $20 an hour or less, there are more important things to worry about than having a fucking iPad (for eg).
And it's not so much that they want the gadget that's the problem, it's that they want it NOW instead of waiting 6 months when it'll be 25% cheaper.

It's that desire for instant gratification that's killing people financially.
What are you gonna do, blame the manufacturers and advertisers for making us want it so bad?

Yes, PA....you should be able to have these gadgets too, because it'll make you happy and "equal" to everyone else who's eyeball deep in debt.

I know. Those ungrateful bastards for wanting stuff. How dare they. They should be grateful if they have a roof over their head and food.

As Brenda points out, if you're making a low wage, you're not going to be able to afford much stuff. And I guess you're saying they shouldn't even want it, just be grateful they're not in Somalia. While the rich keep getting richer.

Oh stop. I don't know about you but when I had limited means, I stuck with the inexpensive tv, the pre-fab furniture, and minimal expensive gadgets because I didn't want to go into debt for them.

No one deserves gadgets, Andy, they are not a right as you seem to be suggesting. They are a privilege that you work for.

Yep, it easy to see that you've tapped out. The second the argument suggests that fiscal prudence and economic priorities should take precedence over your one trick pony of wealth distribution so everyone gets everything, you shove your head up your ass and yell "NononononononononoIcan'thearyou!"

Wow dude, you just don't get it do you. You act like people should be entitled to buy anything they want right away regardless of economic station.
Would it be safe to say that patience is not one of your virtues andy?
This isn't some Roddenberry-esque universe. Sometimes you have to wait a bit to get what you want. And there's nothing wrong with that, no matter how you want to try and spin it.
I remember when the first real PCs started coming out. I wanted one, really bad, but I couldn't afford to part with the better part of $2000 at the time. So, I saved up for it. I could have used my credit card but I knew that wasn't gonna be paid off within the month. But I guess I was stupid and should have rushed into debt just for something I didn't really need.

Absolutely. And that is the way I am about it too. If I have to choose between an iPad that I do not need, because I HAVE a computer, or food or rent, guess what wins? Not the iPad on the credit card...

That said, I am sure Andy was sarcastic. Of course people WANT it. The difference is tho that not every one can afford everything. Doesn't mean they can't WANT them...

You get me, you really get me. But it's also to point out the attitude that fuck the people on the bottom. Let em get a better education. People who are low income should barely be able to afford rent and food, what else do they want. And PA and OTI reassuring themselves that people earning shit wages have all the latest gadgets. Sure they do.

You talked about $20 an hour. A couple each earning that are doing OK. A single parent is still not too badly off. But 20% of BC's workforce earns less than $12 an hour. Big difference.

I'm fairly certain andy believes that poor people DESERVE these things...they're entitled to the same thing everyone else is, how dare we rob them of that joy.
