That's one of the dumber things I've seen today. Why the hell should they build churches, temples or synagogues in Mecca? Everybody there is a Moslem if you haven't fucking noticed, and it has absolutely zero significance to non Moslems.

Those arab cities or regions that had a Christian past or have a significant number of Christians or other faiths, have other religious centres in them(Damascus, Amman, Tripoli, Algiers, Istanbul, Cairo, Alexandria, Bethlehem, Baghdad, Beirut, Tehran to name but a few).

There are sizable Moslem populations where they do build mosques in other nations. Also, we(Westerners) unlike Saudi Arabia have freedom of religion, and the right not to practise religion, enshrined in our constitutions.

Sorry but I don't think I was likely clear on my point as Desert Dude missed the point of my post too if he thinks I was touting Atheism as a cure when I was really trying to point out the stupidity of one religious group denying another the very same rights it covets.

My point is that it's absurd that we are being lectured on tolerance from a group that won't even allow anyone who is not a Muslim to enter an entire city.

It would be the equivalent of the Vatican never allowing any protestant to enter the city.

The very Quran backs this with (I don't have this memorized so forgive me) Sura 28. I think it's verse 9 that refers to the unclean I'll check up on it in a bit.

My point to Desert Dude was that I can totally relate to the Islamic homophobia because of the prejudice I've faced as a non believer by people using one person as an example of the whole.

I can relate to all Muslims being labeled as evil because of the actions of a few when people bring up the Hitler and Stalin were atheists argument. I also pointed out that Correlation is not Causation fallacy but maybe I didn't do enough to point that out as the important argument I was making.

Just fyi, NOT all Muslims in the world are responsible for the attack, nor do they ALL condone it.
Not everyone is opposed to the Centre being built there, including people who lost loved ones in the attack.
The city gave out a permit, there already are a few mosques close to Ground Zero.
