Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
I still have a question.

Should I still be allowed to have an RPG if I'm "responsible", if I've taken the 'proper training', and if I promise to keep it a foot higher than my depressed suicidal nephew can reach?

Because I should be allowed to have an RPG if I'm 'responsible' and I just want mah RPG because it sure is purdy.

How about if I give it a name like a gun owner would?

Name it "Beatrice"...

Now what could possibly go wrong with that?

Let me rephrase that: Should I be banned from owning an RPG if I have no criminal record, am mentally stable, trained in its proper use, only use it responsibly and keep it secure? Citizens in a free state should not have to demonstrate why the need something to the government, the government should demonstrate why it is necessary to prevent someone from doing something.

Here is a challenge I have for you and those who agree with you: explain why is it necessary to ban civilians from owning automatic firearms? I've seen plenty of posts saying its not necessary for a civilian to own a automatic but that doesn't really address the issue. There are hundreds of thousands of legal but unnecessary things, why should firearms be treated differently?

Something to consider a M203 40mm grenade launcher is legal in Canada as it is classified as a flare gun, its the frag grenade is illegal.

As long as you use it responsibly I don't care.

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The purpose of an MP3 Player is to play music.

The purpose of an MP3 Player is to make music sound shitty. Music needs room. You can't get music from something jammed in your ears.
Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The purpose of a suitcase is to carry your shit.

agreed
Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The purpose of a credit card is to get screwed.

No. The purpose of a credit card is to screw, not get screwed. But if you know how to use them, you can screw the credit card company back. Pay your monthly bill and you get an endless interest free loan from your bank.
Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The purpose of a phone is to talk mindlessly.

Again, that's user error. The purpose of a phone is to get beer, hookers and pizza delivered.
Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
The purpose of a gun is to kill.

Actually the purpose of a gun is to project a bullet out the barrel at high velocity.

Yeah, that's the angle the guy who invented guns saw in it.

"Let's concoct some gizmo that'll project shit at high velocity"...that was the thinking that went into inventing guns and improving them thereafter.

And the purpose of a hammer is to smack shit with, but the problem it solved was attaching things with nails.

Certainly some guns are manufactured to kill. But to say a guns purpose is to kill is disingenuous, there are entire sports dedicated merely to target shooting. The only thing that gets killed there is a paper target. Many people buy their weapons with the sole purpose of shooting them at the range. So guns have a purpose other than taking a life.

No question. Guns weren't invented to shoot at shooting ranges though. Swords make lovely decorations on the wall, but that's not reason that man invented the sword.

Uhhhh....

Let's be honest here. A gun's purpose is to take life. Substituting that life with a paper target is a matter of conveniance and or necessity if there are no deer or rabbits nearby.

Imagine the winter biathlon shooting at deer, rabbits, or criminals. Might lose some viewers.

That's how it works.

It's purpose, the reason it was ever invented, is to cause very high injury to other creatures. It is effective for that purpose. It is made only because it is effective at that purpose.

If it was not made fulfil that purpose guns would NOT exist.

You didn't say a gun was invented to kill. With that I can agree. You said:

My uncle owns guns. Some he has used to hunt with. He also owned a revolver which was bought with the sole intention of target shooting. There are guns manufactured for biathlon there are used only to shoot at targets.

Uhhhh....

Let's be honest here.

Yes why don't we. Thousands of people buy guns whose purpose is either a collectors item or a target shooter. That is their purpose.

I bought a new laptop - I only use it to hold a glass of wine. Nothing else.

Guess that laptop is a coaster...
