ShepherdsDog ShepherdsDog:
What...... can't talented artists, who happen to be homos, get funding from the already existing arts programs? I'd actually like to see the government pull out of these programs all together, and see it return to the old system of patrons funding the arts.

The politically correct term is not homo..its gay.. get with the program...
And why shouldn't the arts be funded and supported? I mean the torys bail out large business.. ie GM, Chrysler etc.. but I guess if we depended on the likes of you... the arts would be broke.. most people who enjoy the arts and their value are educated.. guess that would leave some folks out eh?

Nudity shouldn't be a crime anyway. Who is harmed by looking at a naked body?

EyeBrock EyeBrock:

Wrong Ken.

Nudity, Section 174, Criminal Code

(1) Every one who, without lawful excuse,

(a) is nude in a public place, or

(b) is nude and exposed to public view while on private property, whether or not the property is his own,

is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

(2) For the purposes of this section, a person is nude who is so clad as to offend against public decency or order.

You should forward that to the Edmonton Police Service.

This spring when I went to report an accident (someone hit me), I listened to officer tell a caller that they couldn't do anything about someone walking around naked in their own house, even if they had the blinds/curtains open.

He suggested, "Call them and ask them to close the curtains/blinds."

He couldn't help chuckling after he got off the phone...I have to admit I was trying not to laugh either.

$1:
But Luc Fournier, director of an umbrella organization for Quebec's major international events, says the department has known from the outset that the province's festival circuit is the most powerful in the country and might scoop up a large proportion of the funds.

Sounds like that's why Quebec got 42% of the funding. I don't agree with that rationale, but it makes some sense. My guess is only a couple events in Edmonton/Calgary/Vancouver would be applicable for funding (Edmonton Fringe Festival, Calgary Stampede, etc) under this program. All in all, it sounds like it wasn't very well thought out.

Just like the Lotto, it's tilted in favour of higher population areas...

Yea, it's not an oft used law. The EPD guy was wrong though, in this neck of the woods a 'door-knock' would have followed it up and a quick chat usually sorts these things out.
I have seen 'indecent act' used more often and it's a summary offence that get's the job done and alters the pattern of behaviour to an acceptable level.

Well don't know, every province has its own laws.. in Ontario women can go topless. I know that in strip bars the stippers must have at least a belt of some sort on.
don't think I have ever seen any completely bare men or women at a Gay Pride Parade and I have been to them in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver and in Brazil.

The Government's gotta ensure they fund all programs, every single one of them, to ensure we don't offend Ken and his gay brother.

Then, once all these special events have been funded, Ken and the Liberals, along with his gay brother, can complain about our deficit, ignoring the fact that the Government just paid for their gay arts festival.

But at least everyone would be happy

As I understand this, and please correct me if I'm wrong, EyeBrock, Gwen Jacobs was not charged with public nudity but public obscenity. Her case was discharged by the Ontario Court of Appeals. So, in Ontario, being bare-chested was ruled to be "not obscene". Presumably that could be used as precedent if someone were to take a Section 174 charge to the Supreme Court. But, since that hasn't happened, the law remains in force, waiting for someone to challenge it. So, it's really a lame-duck law, at least as far as tits go.

There was also a guy who beat (no pun intended) the public obscenity law for jerking off in his house where his neighbours could see him. The Supreme Court overturned his conviction but refused to strike down the law. I can't recall the details of the court's reasoning.

Lol.
(sarcasm on)

Wow.. at this rate.. The Consevatives might now win in Quebec..

Typical old pandering to Quebec.
42% of the funding 23% of the population.
.. and everyone is a homophobe for finally saying that enough is enough.

Oh please......just cause you can't fund all homosexual related events they're pathetic losers?

The only pathetic losers are those using the gay community as pawns to make a half-assed argument that holds no merit at all.

The Toronto Gay Pride parade gets funded because it makes the city a shit-load of money.
