I didnt know religion had scientific evidence proving miracles?
Faith, being illogical and without reason is not a belief it is a fact.

now you're straying off topic. I know what i believe and I dont have to defend it. why can't there be tollerance for both sides of the argument?

You cant tell someone it takes 9 months, roughly, for a impregnated woman to come to term. Except when God impregnates you, then it takes a week Its either one or the other.

But there isn't tolerance for both. The fact that the mention of god is in there proves that. Replace god with the Force. How many people would be jumping up and down whining. There isn't tolerance. Or the FSM.

I didn't go to my convocation, so I don't have first-hand knowledge of the context in which god is mentioned, but the idea of a small mention of god in a speech from a university staff member doesn't bother me. It bothered me a little when my hich school had a pastor in to pray for us in the ceremony and to say grace before the dinner.
The former is an acknowledgement of the history of the institution and an honoring of decent principles and a statement that you should put your education to good use. And that's okay by this atheist. The latter is a deliberate injection of religion into what ought to be a secular event. That's not okay.

I have no problem with that, but when you have an institution that is supposed to be founded on logic and reason you cant give a nod to a belief that defies it.

here in newfoundland in the smaller communities the graduating class goes to church before the graduation ceremony, different places have different beliefs.
what makes me mad is when people start to think that their beliefs are better or moer important than someone elses
