The mission failed. We're all supposed to be surprised by this?? I stopped caring about this crap a while back. BP made their bed, now they have to lie in it, and the rest of us with pay for it for years to come in some way or form.

The rich white dudes obviously don't care paying billions in fines having to change companies is no deterent to them. Getting their asses thrown in jail for a couple of years and becoming someones bitch probably would get them to be a little more environmentally concious

I've read a comment that said that perhaps BP is not using all the tools they have to shut down the well because they don't want to shut it down permanantly end then losing dozens of billions in that adventure. They are trying to 'save' the well to use it in the future.

What do you think ?

They've already said on record they will never reopen this well. They have not said they will not redrill this site though.

It is interesting how many of their options to stop the leak seem to have involved diverting it up into waiting tankers as opposed to stopping it for good.

Giving BP permission to re-drill in the same spot seeing how nearly impossible it is to stop if there is another mistake would be nuts.

I imagine the next time this company is allowed to drill a well they will be watched so closely they won't have room to turn around.

I don't imagine them drilling another well before their bankruptcy.

They made 6 Billion Net in the first 1/4 of this year and so far has not even spent a billion on clean up. Bankruptcy is not that close yet.

Wait for the cleaning fees, the drop of the shares and the lawsuits.

I'm quite good in physics but the pressure of fluid isn't the thing I prefer.

If someone could answer my question:

At 1500m depth, the pressure is about 150 atm. That's a LOT. Anyway, the oil is spilling in quite high quantity.

There's the density of oil that is lighter than water but there is also the pressure in a quite 'small' hole. From my understanding, the pressure must be really high to counter the water pressure. I know it blew up the platform and all. But let's imagine that happened at 150m with the same oil reserve. It would be 10 times worst since the water pressure would be 10 times less.

Am I right ?

I dunno,

What I do know it's estimated at 75,000 barrels of oil a day is spewing out.

I would need to do the experience with a reservoir of (vegetal) oil and a reservoir of water separated by a tiny hole and change the pressure. That's what you are telling me Bodah ? :P

Gunnair Gunnair:
There will be stricter controls, but I doubt much stricter. In the end, they need the oil, and they are willing to risk a lot to get it.

Admittingly, did not read through the whole thread, but there needs to be stricter controls. The problem is that oil companies ''own'' politicians with campaign contributions.
