Lets not forget what the transfer payment program was created for..distribution of Canada's wealth.. ( Provincial and Territorial).. designed to support have not provinces and territorys. Nfld is now a have province and will still get transfer payments.. Ontario did not get any until recent years. All provinces benefit related to per capita. So why should you be ganging up on Québec? If the tables were turned Alberta would be holding out its hand, and didn't they ask for help from the feds because their economy is in the toilet.. so lets be reasonable.. you won't hear Québecers criticizing Alberta..

Its not for distribution of wealth its for provinces that are in the hole.

And yes Charest was criticizing Alberta in Copenhagen, don't like the dirty oil, then give back the dirty money that's given then. Nah ain't going to do that are they. Hypocrites should stfu.

Zipperfish Zipperfish:

And regarding the oil--I have no idea whose fucking oil I'm buying when I tank up. It could come from Osama bin Laden for all I know. So it's not like I even have a choice as to whose oil I want to buy. Maybe there should be a sign for each gas bar: Saudi Oil here, Alberta Oil here.

Last stats I heard about on this issue is that almost 3 out of every 4 litres of gasoline used in Canada come out of Alberta oil. If it's true then it's reasonable to expect that this amount of domestic production and consumption will only rise as overseas sources dry up or get too politically complicated to deal with anymore (i.e. why fund Saudi Arabian terrorist projects when you can spend your money at home instead?).

I didn't mean to sound pissy about it. I just think that the most anti-Alberta people out there are barely aware of the role Alberta plays in overall Canadian economic progress. All we ever hear is the "bad Alberta" BS about emissions. Strangely enough no one in Alberta ever seems to want to shut down Ontario or Quebec factories over trumped-up environmental concerns. It'd be nice to have the same thing applied to us once in a while instead of constantly being the target of all the vicious invective. It's hard not to take it personally when it's always the same unending and mean-spirited rant.

Oh I think those anti-Albertans are well aware of the role Alberta has played in Canada. I'm sure that's the motivation for their snide comments. When you're the guy on the hill, everybody wants a piece of you.

Hey, I love Alberta, the only problem with it is, it's full of Albertans XD

There are lots of Canadians from other provinces that live in Alberta. No need to talk that way.

Either way, I do not agree with the Charest Governement on this. Eventhough I am a Quebecer and that is he is the province's PM. He's been there long enough, time to get the ADQ in there. Now Charest is trying to appeal to the ''Eco'' groups in the province. The PLQ is all about the ''Lobby'' as of late, being construction or whatever else.

How did a thread about car emission standards get turned into another clusterfuck Alberta-bashing session?

Listen, if you jokers in the rest of the country hate us so much, grow a set and refuse to buy our products. It'll hurt us hard in the short-term until we find other customers. But until you're no longer addicted to our products, and are then somehow 100% totally morally clean of our dirty and evil fossil fuels, then shut the fuck up already. Final conclusion, backed up by decades of statistical evidence, is that all of you have taken far more from Alberta than Alberta's ever received from any of you in return. I'm not saying to get down on your knees in gratitude to us but it's sure be a refreshing change if some of you managed to treat us like your fellow countrymen instead of arrogantly looking down on us like we're either your servants or your enemies.

Not so sure this has been a bashing thread per say. At least not on Alberta as much as Quebec. Seems like anytime there is ''Quebec'' in ANY thread title, there is that certain attitude. Then again, Quebec bashing seems pretty common on this forum. Nothing personal, only that only some people should consider the different opinions from different sources out there, that's all.

Alberta is all cool. At least the Oilers are cool man lol. There are some difference of opinion between the provinces, but then let's find some common grounds in order to get this country unified. :)

Nothing wrong with Alberta that a hefty dose of poutine couldn't fix.

 ok to be fair, the battle of Alberta in the NHL.

Something should have been said a while ago, Kenny resides in Ontario. 8O

As for Quebec, surely, like there are those Eco groups that lobby for better environment reglementations, and Charest is buying into it, as well as the provincial media. For instance, look at the Copenhagen conference, the local QC media seemed to drool about the whole event. Harper bad and those Eco groups good. Whatever.

You want to change opinions, it starts with the bias manner of the media. Hey, I keep repeating this, but TVA and SRC (French CBC) are the only 2 remaining media outlets in Quebec, both are strongly left and pro environment. So there you go. Get some real journalism in this province, by this meaning reporting on both sides of the issue, therefore everyone benefits from it.

Note the smiley face after the comment? Lighten up dude.

Now here's how I look at Alberta oil. It's similar to our diamonds in that our oil is also blood free. The provinces that are bitching about it and the other countries that are bitchng about it need to stfu about it.
The Alberta oil reserves benefit EVERY province and industrial sector in this country.
We are now the largest supplier of oil to the US as well. Quite frankly, I think Alberta should be marketing its product as "Blood Free Oil" and expanding our market and investments in it.

Major Transfers
In 2009–10, the Government of Quebec will receive $16.7 billion in major transfers – an increase of $4.7 billion since 2005–06. These transfers were estimated to account for about 27 % of its revenues in 2009–10.
And it should get another billion ....pay up

To Quebec I leave-- a boot to the head!

To Kenny I leave seventy-eight cents in pocket change-- and two boots to the head!

That's very nice, smaller vehicles for Quebec, but if any Canadian government were to tax CO2 with a gasoline tax they would lose support.

BC has already introduced it:

Aw look..Quebec's pretending to be a nation again.
This will support the green platform that they expect the rest of Canada to pay for but will add a substantial cars to the price of cars in Quebec.
