Donny is still playing Cowboys n Injuns....it's the only way he can make the world simple enough for him to understand it.

If you want simple look in the mIrror.

If you do some legal research you will find that precedent has been set by the Supreme Court upholding that the Royal Proclamation of 1763 extends west from Ontario and covers all of the land in the West including BC.

The Crown is obligated to account for the lands in BC that it now occupies.

Unfortunately it is too late for you and your clansmen to intervene on behalf of the white race to prevent the legal action by the original inhabitants of those areas against the Crown to hold the government accountable under its own laws.

And I know the problems that must cause for you and your trailer park buddies, but alas, if you cannot uphold your own laws then what is left?

B.C. and the Haida signed a strategic land use agreement in 2007, and the protocol announced Friday builds on that.

It establishes a joint management council to make development decisions in key areas such as implementation of the land use deal, forest practices, and protected areas. When consensus cannot be reached, the deal dictates that a neutral chairperson will be the deciding vote.

The agreement also sets in motion a process to resolve disputes between Haida and Crown title, and it includes $10 million for the Haida to buy out forest tenures on the islands from willing sellers.

The Haida will also get a 120,000 cubic metre forest tenure on the island.

And like the Coastal First Nations who signed a similar protocol a day earlier, the Haida will get a share of any future revenue from carbon offsets attributable to their rainforest ecosystem.

Perhaps most importantly, the Haida will also have revenue-sharing on future resource development in the region.

Looks like it is your folk whining this time. Get used to it. [BF]

Yet the fact remains the same that most of BC has yet to be accounted for under this process.

So you guys will be able to lobby long and hard against your own laws. [BF]

How PC can you get? Will they insist on renaming Canada?

Canada is or comes from a native word.

I have mixed feelings about the renaming of the islands.

As I pointed out previously, it's not like they are changing the name...

The Queen Charlotte Islands, in Northern British Columbia, Canada, is an archipelago of more than 150 islands. Long Known as Haida Gwaii, or Gwaii Haanas, the islands have gained a reputation for outstanding natural beauty and a remarkable First Nations culture.

For thousands of years the Queen Charlotte Islands have been inhabited by the Haida, an indigenous people to whom art, culture, legends, mythology, and community played an important role in their lives

That's not how it was done in most of Canada. The British didn't Conquer Canadian Natives, but often Allied with them for various struggles against certain enemies. You are wrong, sorry.

Donny_Brasco Donny_Brasco:

The problem is you think it is your land when it really is not. Read the part of the article where it says the Natives have been living there for thousands of years and never signed a treaty surrendering the land.

No one asked them if they wanted to be Canadians. You might as well claim Alaska and see how many of them like it when you call their state a province.

It aint your land either, friend. It will be there long after both our peoples are dust and our legacies are but fleeting memories to those that may still inhabit the planet. Perhaps a productive view to this is needed, Haida Gwaii is a fine name, what does it change? nothing, the archipelago is still in Canada.

Mixed feelings yes, any more ridiculous than naming them after an aristocrat who had nothing to do with the islands whatsoever?
Since Tasu closed and loggin went to shit, the natives are definitely a majority there.

Eyebrock is welcome to visit and use the terms "meek" and "whiners" to any Haida. We'll all be spared his company until he learns to use a mouthstick....

If you scroll back you'll see I'm all for the name change.

The meek and the whiners refers to a few members on here.

OldChum OldChum:
Why also is it that the British Explorers always figured they were out to change the world and rename it in their country's honour .

Because (and bear in mind my Irish ancestry as I say this) the British Explorers DID change the world and unlike any other group of explorers they changed it for the better.

Is the Canada of today a third world shi+hole like all of France's former colonies? No, it isn't.

What about the USA? Or Australia? Or New Zealand?

Even in Africa, the leading countries on that continent are former British colonies; Egypt, South Africa, Kenya.

And consider the immediate alternative, had not the British colonized British Columbia, the Russians would have. So how did the Russians get along with the Natives? Look at what they did in Sitka where they slaughtered and enslaved the Natives.

The Natives shold be GRATEFUL that it was the Brits who colonized them and not the Russians!

But on the other side of things, the residents of British Columbia would be better served by being part of the USA because the USA will not play games with the Natives like Canada does. Seriously, at what point will Canada dissolve itself and give itself back to the Natives so some morons in the Liberal and NDP parties can feel better about themselves?

Oh, well. In any case, you should be proud of Canada's British heritage as it is one of civilization. Were BC a Russian colony there'd be no Natives to worry about in the first place as the Russians would've eradicated them 100 years ago - just like they did on Sakhalin.

Meek =/= weak.

Perhaps in today's lexicon it means 'weak' but in the context of 'the meek will inherit the earth' it means those people who are strong but are humble and slow to anger.

Switzerland is an example of a meek country. They lay low, stay out of trouble, but if anyone wants to mess with them then they'll bust out this:
