lily lily:
Most stores have a policy about what flyers can be posted and who can solicit funds on the premises. No-one should assume they can just set up shop by someone's door and it will be fine. Sure, they're vets and it's tradition, but what about people collecting for other worthy causes? It seems a simple thing to just call the manager and clear things ahead of time.

That said, it's interesting how so many jumped on the boycott wagon without really knowing all the facts, even though they were in the article you all supposedly read.

So not a word about Streaker crapping on the veteran then?

he was doing it for years at that store at the same spot. If they didnt want him there then just say today is your last day you can do that here. or say sorry we can not have you doing this till we check you out and make sure your legit. the poppy has been a donation symbol forever in canada. if they do not make a public apology i wont shop there.

Streaker Streaker:
$1:
"They have some nerve resenting me standing on their property and telling me to get off. I couldn't believe anyone could be so obnoxious.

Could it be that this guy has the nerve, going onto the property, apparently without asking beforehand?

Looks like another pompous diva-vet to me.

$1:
"We made it possible for him (the security guard) to have a job. He wouldn't have it if Hitler had won."

Streaker, when it comes to war vets, you are such a knob. On other things you have a valid point.

Diva-vet?

I feel the pain of our guys doing 6 months in Khandahar. The vets did 6 years away.

Come along to Burlington on the 11th with your white poppy.

Kenmore, this is over blown.
It's just some 10 buck an hour guy kicking out an 85 year-old vet, it's not a HBC policy.
It's right that we get to know about it but really, many Canadians don't really care about the sacrifice these old guys made 60 years or so ago.

That is the real shame, amplified by people wearing white poppies, just pissing on the graves of those 18-25 year-olds who died in WW2.
Shame.

I too think this whole situation could have been handled differently. The Guard should have used some discretion, personally I'd have left the vet to do his thing. Most places will allow vets to poppy canvass.
on a unrelated note, what is a "white poppy"? I've never heard of them.

as much as i dont want to do this, go here..

jibber-jabber-f9/the-white-poppy-t28183.html

40 pages of ranting and raving, summed up by saying
the white poppy is used a protest to the current war.

Streaker Streaker:
It isn't difficult to see what's going on here: Some reservist went into the office and gave them "a piece of his mind". Under the circumstances, that sounds a lot like intimidation to me.

One country's thug is much like any other's.

In Streakers parallel universe, it is thuggery if a member of the Canadian Forces dares to voice his displeasure with a companies policies.

You really are a shallow individual. The beacon of Liberal tolerance, unless it is a military person.

It really is simple though, the military scares Streaker. Most people dont see the CF as threatening but for some reason Streaker is on guard against the military coming out to get him.

I would really like to see what Streaker's reaction would have been if the guy being turfed was selling white poppies....
