Brenda Brenda:
What also amazes me, Trit, is the lack of respect by some religeous people, for the people who are not religeous...
Why would I have to listen to some guy saying: Use it for God, while you won't listen to the same gay saying: use it for the Spagetti monster?

Honestly, in response to that point, because the "spaghetti monster" is not serious. It is a mockery of religion, and doesn't really stand in good stead as a comparison.

The lack of respect though, is very irritating to me. One should be able to believe that another is wrong without acting unjustifiably condescendingly or rudely to that person. I cannot apologize for this group of "religious people" myself, but I hope you don't take them to represent us as a whole.

Also, as to why you would listen when another person is not respecting your beliefs: I consider it an evident moral truth that it is morally superior to not descend to another individual's level when they insult you personally. I think we have common ground on this, although I do not know how you would justify that philosophically.

To me, the Spagetti monster is just as serious as God. Imo, they both don't exist. To you, both might exist. That doesn't mean you are right or wrong, or that I am right or wrong. There is no scientific truth in there, so no proof, thus no reason to consider someone right or wrong...

And no, I never take one person to represent a group. Not in this case either ;-)

I was trying to make the point that the FSM is purely a parody of the religious figure of God, and since it is therefore not an actual religious belief, did not serve as an adequate comparison in that case. It would be much more legitimate to say:

"Why would I have to listen to some guy saying: Use it for [God], while you won't listen to the same guy saying: use it for [Allah]?"

Simply a critique of the debating point. I understand what you are driving at though.

I'm fine with people not believing in God. Just stop trying to ram it down our throats.

i believe this should be more about tolerance than anything else.

Brenda you say why should you have to listen to it when you don't believe in it? Because you are a good person and you can accept other people's beliefs. Just because a group of people don't believe in something doesn't mean it doesn't have to be there. it could mean a great deal to someone else, why are their beliefs any less important?

I hear stuff all the time I don't believe in but I choose to ignore it because I understand that not everyone believes the same thing i do. anyone who is graduating from university should have sense enough to be tolerant of other people's beliefs.
