Yeah, at a baby being fed...

I said earlier, I think a breastfeeding mom shows less breast than I do in normal daily life...

Obviously, it is the idea of "someone sucking a nipple" that makes it all... uncomfortable.

I do think however, that the general opinion about looking at and be looked at should slightly change...

We are hard wired to look at breasts. If we are to accept public breast feeding as natural, women have to accept us looking at your breasts as natural too. I don't have any hang ups about women breast feeding in public, but my wife didn't just plunk the tit out for all to inspect, she used a blanket to cover herself before feeding our kids.

It is not always possible to organise your entire day around your child's feeding schedule. We live an hour away from the city. Infants usually feed every two hours or so. Yes, my wife nursed our two kids (and will probably do so with our twins that are on the way). I have always been upset with places that do not have appropriate facilities to accomidate infants, whether feeding or changing them.

I have absolutely no problem with a mother nursing in public. Most of them usually cover up or wear clothing so that you cannot even see what is going on. It is not the mother's fault that men cannot see past sex and realise that there is more than one function for a woman's breast. They are not just your plaything.

I've seen plenty that have not covered up during the process. I was not offended, nor did I gape and stare. The ones that do are the ones that have the issues, not the mother. The mother's milk is better for the growin child than any man-made concoction and I applaude each and every woman that gives their child the extra leg-up in their early growth. Not to mention that it is a heck of a lot cheaper than buying formula.

I'm sure that a couple-hundred years ago when nearly every woman breastfed, this would not have been an issue.

I know breast feeding is an essentual part of a healthy baby and of proper growth, i was breast fed, my kids will be breast fed....but public breast feeding doesn't sit well with me.....i can't explain it, just every time I see a woman hunkered down with a child tarzaning off her tit...it..it just seems inappropriate to me...

like i said, can't explain it....just doesn't sit right with me....

geez, I thought I lost an job opportunity when the interviewer and I realized at the same time, that I was staring at her breasts.

Babies, especially newborns, have erratic and frequent feedings. Do you think new moms should be confined to their homes during this time?

Breast feeding is perfectly natural, and can be done discreetly. If you don't want to see it.... don't look.

yes lily, but the benefits or whether breast feeding is natural or not is not in question, you did touch on it though....discreetly....

there are alot of women who don't do it discreetly, they'll just plop down, wip out the udder and start feeding little jonny...not discreete...and when that happens no i don't want to friggen see it, but it is kinda hard to miss when tarzan and his mother are walking down the local Cosco isle.....

Costco has lots of aisles to choose from, and you can always look at the items for sale if your fellow shoppers offend you. Besides, I already said that nothing was visible. The only ones who would have known I was breastfeeding while shopping are the ones who sent in enough cereal box tops for a set of those cool x-ray glasses.

We as a society are far too easily offended, IMO.

YES, agreed. But I would say American society is more so than Canada. Vicious murders, beheadings and arms flying across a room is okay and acceptable, but GOD FORBID a nipple be shown on TV!

Anyway, I think it's natural and I wouldn't get offended, but some courtesy would be nice.

I think part of the issue is: some women aren't as subtle as you. They just flip it out and leave it out. ie not covering up anything

I agree with Brenda once again... breast feeding a baby is natural and an important bonding time for mother and child.. the only perversion is the idiots who would gawk or stare or make it an issue.. as a nurse I applaud these women for taking a stand..
