Minor efficiencies like not buying groceries anymore, not going to work and selling your house and living off the land in a tent.

  • The Green Shift, in year one, will increase the cost of home heating oil for that household by $4.20 per month.
  • The Green Shift, in year one, will increase the cost of natural gas for that household from $4.75-$5.54 per month

Dino, if an extra $4.20 each month is going to put you out of house and home then you need to charge more for giving a blow job. :D

Why do you ever spend time on something that will NEVER happen.

after the high cost of fuel, housing, and taxes...I'd bet that more and more Canadians are not saving for their retirement.

Howsabout blaming 25 years of stagnant income for the lack of retirement savings. All courtesy of the Liberal and Tory governments.

Depends which estimates you go with there bud. Most figures peg the home heating increase much higher than that. Let's see here, my December bill from last year states that I used 12 GJs. According to Dion's own pamphlet by the 4th year my heating costs will increase by $2 per GJ, that translates into a $24 increase. So much for your $4 figure or maybe you were to buisy wiping the cum off your chin to do the math yourself.

You mentioned that trucking will only face a 1% increase in operating costs in one of your previous posts. Go to the Green Shift booklet and on page 29 it states that diesel will increase by 7 cents per year by the 4th year. At the current price of diesel which is 1.40 that would equate to a 5% increase in fuel costs would it not? And that's before you factor in the impact on upstream and mid stream production and delivery. While fuel isn't the only cost affecting trucking it is one of their bigger expenses so it sounds to me like 1% might be a little off the mark.

You might be content on taking Dion at his word that this will be a great policy but I'm not personally a big fan of this "wait and see" approach. I myself would like to see some more details on this plan but Dion himself doesn't seem to be overly willing to be forthcoming with them. I can't tell just yet if it's because he knows this plan will impact Canadians harder than he's admitting it will or if it's because just plainly doesn't know himself. Either way it's not a great way to kick off a policy.

Wow $24 a year. That's gonna KILL US. I've paid $300 a MONTH to heat the house in winter.
Just like the 2.4c BC tax which IS on gasoline. I really noticed 2.4c hidden amongst the 50c or so Big Oil stuffed in it's pockets or as much as 7c I've seen station owners raise the price of gas already in the storage tanks.
It's pretty clear a lot of people are anti-environment on this site. Any damned excuse to do nothing at all will do.

The regular whine that Kyoto's "unfair', why should developed countries bear the brunt is a piss poor argument. Let's use PISS itself as the example here. There's only ONE 'environment' so let's argue "Why should we stop pissing in the pool when China still gets to piss in it once in a while?"
Cuz us "developed" nations are supposed to be smarter than them an lead the way!

Maybe you should consider putting some plastic over your windows or something. $300 / month is just nuts unless you live on the south pole.

Why is it that by not supporting Dion’s Green Shift people are instantly labeled anti-environment?

Dion’s plan proposes to place $40 / tonne on emissions and then ….. what? Cross our fingers and hope like hell to hit the very targets set out in Kyoto that Dion himself signed onto? Why is Dion’s plan the only plan Herb? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if this is the type of action you would like to see on climate change the Greens plan is a far better model but I don’t see many Liberals in the crowd acknowledging that fact.

Now you seem to be more up to speed on this than I am so please humor us and show us how Dion’s plan will actually affect real change. What are the targets? When will we meet them by? What are the real costs of the program and what can we expect in exchange for those higher prices in terms of reductions? Is there value for the money we are expected to put out under Dion’s plan?

By all means Herb, spell it out to me.

Do you want to know why I think people like yourself claim that people who don’t support Dion’s plan are anti-environment? Because you have nothing else you can throw out in terms of an honest argument to defend Dions plan because there’s nothing in it about the environment and therefore you have to turn to name calling as a last resort.
