lily lily: $1: I know more about homelessness and its brutality here in Ottawa than any of you, so before you go pissing on me for my cold outlook on this world, keep in mind the cold shit I've seen and endured in my life.
One would think you'd show a little more compassion then.
He did.
Toronto isn't cold compared to Ottawa, that is all he said.

Aw, muffin, is your super-thin, stylish, not-made-for-winter coat not warm enough for you? Gee, that -15C without windchill must be a bitch. And I can't even begin to imagine the horror of dealing with five inches of snow... That is all he said.

You still don't get the point, do you? This was not a comment about homeless, pain or any other victim.

Like I said lily, only I would know.
I make fun of Toronto and how "cold" it is there. Not the homeless.
By all means, come up to Ottawa, talk to me and my friends. Hell, we'll even show you around and tell you our stories.
It goes way beyond compassion. What may seem inhumane and cruel to you people is the only realistic way we can be humane for us here in Ottawa.

$1: Well then instead of buying them a warm drink why not buy them a ticket to Toronto where we are all so much warmer. maybe that way they won't freeze.
I've never thought of that, but thanks for the suggestion. Let's hope they actually take up the offer. At least your city has adequate shelters and even has people to come and pick them up.

$1: You know what they say about those who assume....
In that case, practice what you preach.
You came in here blasting and pointing fingers at me because I quote: "laugh at the homeless in Toronto".
Pot, meet kettle...

Brenda Brenda: You still don't get the point, do you? This was not a comment about homeless, pain or any other victim. Obviously his comments weren't about the homeless. I don't think Arctic is uncaring. We are merely pointing out that there are thousands of "pussies" in Toronto who's lives will be in danger due to this temperature. So before ripping on Toronto and telling us that Ottawa has it worse think of the people that will actually be affected. They are mentioned right in the article.

Thank you!
Finally, someone who gets the utter simplicity of this!
Seriously, thanks Brenda.

$1: I'm sure that will make the homeless feel so much better.
They have more to worry about, believe me... $1: Do you really think the homeless in TO should feel fortunate that it's "only" -5 and not -10 like it is in Ottawa?
I hate to say it, but yes. I know that the thought doesn't even cross their mind since they are just trying to survive but hell, the homeless in TO have people that WILL COME AND PICK THEM UP when it's too cold.

Actually, yes. $1: That is all he said.
Christ, do I need to speel everything out for you? Stop and think for just a moment before you let your emotions get the best of you. Do you really think that I would be stupid enough to think/believe that the homeless in Toronto would have "super-thin, stylish, not-made-for-winter" coats? Sheesh... Brenda Brenda: You still don't get the point, do you? This was not a comment about homeless, pain or any other victim.

As we all know, Toronto thinks as itself as the fashion centre of the universe, or at least Canada. People are not dressed for cold temps. Fashion is not made for any other use than to look great. I don't think Arcky was talking about the homeless, when he used the word "pussies", or asked sarcasticly about the coats.
I don't think homeless people care a lot about fashion, and I assume Arcky agrees with me on that.
What I do think, is that Arcky is right. What is "compassion" for Vancouverites or Torontonians, can have no effect on Ottawanese. Compassion is of no use if you don't practise what you preach, in a usefull way. But hey, what do I know about homelessness or cold temps? I only know in Vancouver hell hardly ever freezes over, so if I have to choose between helping homeless in Vancouver or Ottawa, my help goes to Ottawa. Reason? My coat is warm enough to help one there, while I can go in a sweater in Vancouver.

In that case, practice what you preach. You came in here blasting and pointing fingers at me because I quote: "laugh at the homeless in Toronto". Pot, meet kettle... Ah, another assumption from the peanut gallery. What makes you think I don't practice what I preach? Pretty arrogant of you to assume that you're the only one who gives a damn... especially given everything you've said in this topic. And you prove me right yet again. What makes me think you don't practice what you preach? Well, for starters, I quoted your post about "You know what they say about those who assume". You assumed that I didn't give a fuck. You even accused me of laughing at the homeless in Toronto. $1: Pretty arrogant of you to assume that you're the only one who gives a damn... especially given everything you've said in this topic.
Andd you fail to practice what you preach again.
I never said that I was the only one who gives a damn, but I am the only one on here who would have an intimate knowledge of the situation, especially of the one here in Ottawa.

Arctic_Menace Arctic_Menace: but I am the only one on here who would have an intimate knowledge of the situation, especially of the one here in Ottawa. How do you know this? There are a lot of members here, and a lot of them don't go into detail about what they do outside of here. There might be people here who work every day with the homeless.
