Fun anecdote:

Every single long gun registry-hating Alberta conservative I've ever asked about the handgun registry has never had a problem with it. Literally all of them are fine with registering handguns-what drives them crazy is registering long guns that are treated more as tools for pest control (scaring away coyotes that threaten livestock, for example) or for hunting for food. I'm no expert, but I can't seem to recall many hunters using handguns to kill their prey.

That's why dismantling the long gun registry was one of the best things Stephen Harper ever did. It's no accident that something like 12 Liberals and 8 NDPers broke with their parties and voted to repeal the registry, since they knew there'd be hell to pay from their constituents if they supported keeping it.

Just a waste of federal tax dollars, and creates unnecessary headaches for long gun owners.

Except that wolves naturally grow their own teeth, they don’t get them by stealing or illicitly buying them from sheep,

Also unlike your shitty analogy, guns are not natural elements of our bodies like teeth that we’re chosen to get rid of, in an unnatural way, they’re foreign objects that we’ve chosen to introduce to our society

Also in the real world the killers are not some higher order species like a wolf but are actually just another sheep who lost his shit.

Knives aren't natural either. Bladed weapons were designed to kill. Bladed weapons have been used to commit more homicides this century than firearms. Where's your demand for knife control?

Yeah, except those who bought their teeth nice and legal-like are the ones being punished for owning them.

You mean like bladed weapons that have been used to kill more people in Canada since the turn of the century than guns, that you insist are merely tools? Are you really that stupid?

Also in the real world the killers are not some higher order species like a wolf but are actually just another sheep who lost his shit.[/quote]Yeah and? So a bunch of sheep decide to disarm themselves because one of their own loses their shit? So have you gotten rid of your car yet? I mean it's not like people have never used automobiles to engage in mass killing and mayhem. I guess the approximately 300 per year that die from gunshots are far more important than the approximately 1800 people that are killed every year in MVAs. MOST of which are caused by idiots who don't take the responsibility of car ownership and driving seriously.

Have you disarmed yourself by getting rid of all your sharp kitchen knives? Like I said, more people in Canada have been stabbed to death than shot to death since 2000. And the vast majority of those shootings did NOT involve semi-automatic rifles.

Nah, you're too far gone down the ideological rabbit hole. You clearly have zero objectivity when it comes to firearms possession for LAW-abiding citizens.

All gun owners are potentially criminals to you. Why not just say that. Stop beating around the bush.

Do you think all car owners are potentially criminals? They have to register their cars. Why treat guns more lax than cars?

cars kill orders of magnitude more people than guns.

Here's a suggestion for Trudeau and his Liberal Party.

Start by taking guns away from criminals first and then, if that works you can do the same to the law abiding citizens.

They aren't in Canada. In fact I'd say the laws surrounding gun ownership are far more strict than for vehicle ownership.

First off, you don't need a licence to own a vehicle. You need one to own a firearm though, plus another permit to transport it plus another permit if you want to hunt with it.

Now, imagine if car ownership laws stated that you had to have a secure, locked garage to keep it in when not in use and you must disconnect the battery and store it separately from the vehicle.
Now imagine having a clean driving record and the govt comes and takes your car because too many people are killed by them.

300 is a bad year for firearm related homicides in Canada. 1800 is an average year for MVA deaths in Canada. In any given year around 50% of the firearm related homicides are gang related and almost all them used handguns. I fail to see how taking the semi-auto rifles of law-abiding citizens is going to solve that. Particularly when you look at the paltry number of mass shootings in Canada involving semi-automatic rifles.

But here's a fact for ya Jack. Go look at the homicide stats from the year 2000 on. The conclusion is unmistakable; Liberal govts are a leading cause in the increase in homicide by firearm. Rates remained high but "stable" under the previous Liberal govt. During the Harper years there was a steady decline with a couple of little hiccups. As soon as Groper was elected, the numbers literally shot right up, no pun intended.

Only authoritarian govts disarm innocent, law-abiding people and treat them as criminals for merely defending their families. It must be a sign that they know how badly they suck at governing.

In this case it's Leftism: Ideas so goddam "good" they have to be forced on people.
