It's getting ever more important to look for "Made in Canada" labels. And failing that, "Made in U.S.A.".

Do you really want to eat frosted flakes from THAILAND? they are sure to come with "special surprise", six legged green things in every box.

I don't eat Frosted Flakes or anything else from Kellogg's or Post so I frankly don't worry about it.

What? no Count Chocula or Boo Berries?

This. My maple syrup either comes from Canada or Vermont and I never buy that flavored corn syrup crap that seems to be so popular down here.

Yup. And failing that--buy quality. Canadian Tire's will be half the price but Lee Valley's will last years.

Good advice. I have a pair of Doc Marten's I bought back in 1998 and they still look brand new. Can't say that I wear them all the time, but still...

Downsizing 1st world production facilities in favour of low wage earners in less fortunate countries. A nice stiff trade policy and tariffs would fix this. Which is exactly why I said this is a nice little problem caused by Globalization.

The expansion in Thailand is to serve a growing Asian market, not to serve a declining North American market.

Besides, what do you have against poor people in 'less fortunate' Thailand getting access to better jobs?

When the jobs come at the expense of those at home we should all be worried. Especially when they then import what's made there over here. It's a lose lose for us. Lost jobs. Lost revenue. You can't seriously believe otherwise?

You just can't beat the real thing for taste. And of course no artificial flavourings or additives.

I live in a maple bush area, so if I look around I can get a good price on maple syrup. Last time, I picked up a 1 gallon jug of No.1 medium for $40. That goes a long way.

I don't like to buy Far East foodstuffs and stay away from them as much as I can. If I can't buy Canadian I'll buy US by second choice or European by third. The only common exception is bananas from Central America.

We've got Chinese garlic in our grocery stores dirt cheap, but I won't touch it. I try to stock up on locally grown garlic during the summer. If I run low, I'll buy American, even though it's twice as expensive as Chinese.

I heard an old Quebecois sugar bush operator refer to that stuff as the syrup that you get from tapping telephone poles.

(... for you nstive Westerners ... maple syrup comes from tapping an exotic species called the "Sugar Maple" ... the one on our flag, as a matter of fact.)
