Jonny_C Jonny_C:
There are American jurisdictions which have statistics that show that concealed carry of firearms results in less violent crime.

No there aren't. "Resulted" implies causation. Causation has not been proven.

Tricks Tricks:
Curtman Curtman:
Its proportional to the market. The bigger the market, the bigger the increase in violence.

Dodge.

Will prohibition on firearms increase violence? It's a simple yes or no.

Since it's ask a silly question time, let's turn this around. Will no regulation whatsoever on firearms decrease violence? It's a simple yes or no.

I'm not aware of any state that totally prohibits firearms the way states totally prohibit certain drugs. States regulate the ownership of firearms to differing degrees of stringency. Are you really proposing that we go to having no regulation whatsoever on owning and carrying firearms? What point exactly are you trying to make here?

If you're trying to relate this to legalization of drugs, as I've said, guns are already legal. And, guns have one purpose - to kill. Drugs have no such purpose. Eliminate the profit for gangs from drugs, and you'll see a lot less violence, including killing with guns, no matter how restricted or not the guns are. I believe that was Curt's point. You're trying to make a false equivalence here.

44 more murders isn't what I'd call a failure of policy on crime and punishment out of a population of 33 million.

That's only because you're a sociopath who lacks empathy for those 44 people and their families.

Come on, be fair. What he said is perfectly reasonable. Guess I'm a sociopath too. We had one year uptick in our homicide rate after a decade of no increases. That's not something to set your hair on fire about. We should always look at what we can do to decrease homicides - legalize drugs for instance. But we also have to recognize that we're going to have some people killing each other, no matter what we do.
