Tricks Tricks:
I disagree to a point, most things pre university can be taught by a parent pretty easily. More advanced stuff I can see the need for a teacher. University, absolutely.

I'm glad you think Cops are mindless brutes until molded by teachers and parents have nothing to do with it. Great job assfuck. Shows how much respect you have for them.

Before being hired, they absolutely have to pay for it themselves. All those requirements listed under the link I posted earlier come out of the individuals pocket before being hired. On top of schooling. It's while employed I'm unsure of. Eyebrock could answer better than I could.

Ah the usual conservative thinking - limited.

Would you have preferred ignorant brutes? We'd all be ignorant brutes if we weren't taught. Who taught the parents that you say could teach the children? It's legal to homeschool your kids now - don't see man parents doing it. And what are they using to homeschool - stuff developed by teachers. Teaching/learning lies at the heart of human advancement. There's a reason we made education universal and free.

So you'd destroy the entire education system altogether. Good idea. Seems to be working well in places like Afghanistan.

I'd put an end to this kind of nonsense. That's not the same as 'destroying the entire education system' which is a bit of an exaggeration.

I'd just put out a return to work order and make clear that the remainder who stay off the job will be fired. I'd also revoke the union contract given that the union places more importance on what teachers get paid than on what they're supposed to do for that pay.

CBS News posted the following:

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-505145_162- ... n-college/

$1:
Homeschool students earned a higher ACT score (26.5) versus 25.0 for other incoming freshmen.

Homeschool students earned more college credits (14.7) prior to their freshmen year than other students (6.0).

Homeschooled freshmen were less likely to live on campus (72.4%) than the rest of the freshmen class (92.7%).

Homeschoolers were more likely to identify themselves as Roman Catholic (68.4%).

Homeschool freshmen earned a higher grade points average (3.37) their first semester in college compared with the other freshmen (3.08).

Homeschool students finished their freshmen year with a better GPA (3.41) than the rest of their class (3.12).

The GPA advantage was still present when homeschoolers were college seniors. Their average GPA was 3.46 versus 3.16 for other seniors.

Homeschool students graduated from college at a higher rate (66.7%) than their peers (57.5%).

Of course, the big knock on homeschool students is that they never develop social skills since their classrooms are often their kitchen tables and their mothers are often their teachers. Cogan, however, noted that another homeschool study that looked at more than 7,300 adults, who had been homeschooled, determined that the homeschool graduates were more likely to have voted and participated in community service than other adults.

Looks to me that those 'ignorant brutes' are academically kicking the snot out of the product of government education systems.

Yeah, that's it, let's go for national homeschooling - that will work.

You'd fire all the strikers. So who takes their jobs? There isn't 100,000 teachers in reserve somewhere. And when you introduce the new rules (no collective bargaining, no right to strike, shit wages) who are you going to attract? Quality candidates would never accept your terms of employment. No, it's no exaggeration to call your hair-brained scheme "destruction" of the system.

Read his post. Nobody would take their place, because homeschooling is the way to go.

If teachers are getting such a sweet deal, I wonder why, according to the tighty righties they're doing such a lousy job? I thought the way it works is that if you pay the big bucks you'll attract the talent?

Brenda Brenda:
Still, a baby sitter with 8 year experience still gets paid minimum wage, where as a teacher makes 80k. (or something) Yet, both are VERY important in a child's life and teach them a lot of different things.

You're comparing apples and oranges - one is a skilled profession that takes years of education and one is something teenagers do to make a few bucks.

You're comparison is no more apt than comparing the civil engineer who plans the highway and the girl in the vest directing traffic.

But clearly you see these are still 2 very different things? That's like comparing a taxi driver to an airline pilot.

Who do you interact with more... the airline pilot or the taxi driver?

Who cares which one you interact with more? Driving a taxi cab is unskilled work(I know because I've done it myself right out of high school), and flying a jumbo jet takes a helluva lot of training - and even then, you spend years as a co-pilot learning the job before you ever get to be the pilot.

There's a reason for the disparity of wages - almost anyone can become a taxi driver (all it takes is a road knowledge test and a clean abstract in Edmonton), but becoming an airline pilot takes years of classroom and practical training. And getting a commercial pilot's license costs close to what a Bachelor degree does these days (around $20k). Getting my taxi license cost me $200 (for a medical and a defensive driving course) and took a couple of days.

You guys are seriously arguing about whether pilots and taxi drivers should get the same wage?

I think you are missing the hyperbole that was drawn.

Aside from that, if you think that only teenagers babysit to make a few bucks, try again. After school care is big business. And NOT only done by teenagers.

They got 10% between 2006 and 2010. Now they want an additional 15%. They get the right to walk out of their job for 3 consecutive days.

Really, WHO got that much of an increase in wages? And HOW can anyone think that, in these economic times, that is a right thing?
Shame on you. ALL for the kids, right? FUCK OFF.

The post wasn't discussing education and skills, in any way shape or form

Not sure why you went that route

No, it won't. But for those who want to do it then why stop them? It frees up a seat for some other kid at the local school.

Most of those 100,000 teachers would return to work because they know they're not getting a better job anywhere else. As to destroying the system? If the price of having that system is periodically requiring taxpayers to submit to extortion by these teachers then maybe that system should be destroyed.

This is on the fb page of CTV:
CTV British Columbia
JUST IN: B.C. government has brought in legislation aimed at bringing an end to the teachers dispute, but it doesn't impose a contract. Education Minister George Abbott says the legislation imposes a cooling off period that suspends all strike and lockout activities and appoints a mediator to develop non-binding recommendations by the end of the school year.
The bill could take a week to move through the legislature, which may give teachers a chance to take some of the strike action the Labour Relations Board approved for the union today.
