DrCaleb DrCaleb:
Some more info for those still on the fence:

$1:
Education officials said 70 per cent of the students at one small school on the Burin Peninsula were off sick, while St. Thomas of Villanova in Conception Bay South, near St. John's, reported that 40 per cent of its junior high students were out of class.

In Calgary, schools are required to contact public health authorities whenever the absentee rate climbs above 10 per cent.

"What we are seeing now, I've never seen before," Dr. Judy MacDonald, Alberta's deputy medical officer of health, said Wednesday. "We've been getting upwards of 10 reports like that from schools in the Calgary area for the last week or so, so we know there is a lot of influenza-like activity out there."

While the Calgary Board of Education won't reveal which schools have high absentee rates, spokesman Ted Flitton said some schools are reporting student absences of between one and 30 per cent.

http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2009/10/ ... n-flu.html

That is not the same as the letter the schooldistrict here sent out (that I offered to type over). The only similar thing is the 10% absentee rate that has to be reported.

Sweet Zombie Jesus...

What exactly is it with those schools? In their gym classes, is the predominant form of exercise "see who can cough on the other guys most"?

As a disclaimer... these may just be isolated cases, clusters caused by a student or 2 that was, shall we say, less than gracious when affected by the flu. Or they could be due to parents overreacting.

Still, gotta say... sheesh.

When schools tell you to keep your children home when they cough, and not to come back after 2 days of NOT coughing, what do you expect?

Nobody here claimed that everyone wanting a vaccination took the time to examine the evidence. Its a straw man. Some take the vaccination because of the over-hype, or simply because that's what their doctor told them to do.

The only flu shot I will participate in is both barrels of a 12g up the chimney.

This is the only shot I know that gives positive results. It also takes care of any strawmen and the evidence is immediate.

Strutz Strutz:
I do agree with a comment already made here about medication actually weakening your own natural defences. Personally, I have found that I don't even catch the common cold as often as I once did since I stopped taking medication for every sniffle.

Well thank you for that Strutz :)

Kinda hard to find that in the wailing bitchfest this thread has become. :)

Got something rather nasty a couple of weeks ago,
vitamin C
homemade chicken soup
lots of hot toddies

omg I survived ! :)

Cant remember the last time I went to a doctor.
Oh yes I do, bastard tried to kill me 8O 8O

But I digress, let the bitchslapping HAND stuff continue, its fun to read :)

Yes, I messed up the posting when I pasted in the URL. Its a typo. Deal with it...

This should be the correct one:
current-events-f59/canadians-coast-to-coast-roll-up-their-sleeves-for-h1n1-vacc-t84905.html#p1569083

Edited to add:
In that post, you quote:
"There is no evidence that any influenza vaccine thus far developed is effective in preventing or mitigating any attack of influenza."
-Dr. J. Anthony Morris

Sounds pretty anti-vax to me.

What you messed up like 3-4 times now? And if you had been following it I later retract it after Proculation posted some other information and thanked him for doing it. After all that's what smart critical thinkers do.

You posted an anti-vax statement.

I reminded you (and the rest of the forum) that you posted an anti-vax statement. You then falsely accused me of lying, saying you didn't.

If you want to claim that you made anti-vax statements that you later retracted, then you should have done so. Instead, you again falsely accused me of lying. When I posted the date and time that you made the anti-vax post, you still claimed you didn't make it.

I could have pointed to many of the other anti-vax statements you made after that date, but I felt no need to. I illustrated an anti-vax statement you made. Regardless of anything else you say, you cannot admit you never made it.

Edited to add:
Here is the post where you specifically claim that you didn't quote a doctor saying "vaccines were inneffective". If you follow the earlier quoted link in my post you will see the truth.

If you're referring to the ongoing thread about who made "anti-vax" statements, I do not think any posts have been edited.

I do believe that Akhenaten is trolling... making a statement that he deliberately knows is wrong (claiming he did not say X, when there is a post of his that does say X), in an attempt to get me to react.

No. You changed your accusation and now you're trying to pretend you didn't lie. Once again since you seem to be too afraid to address it and insist on cutting off the quotes of my post so people won't see what you're hiding....I posted this to you yesterday and you replied to it:
Akhenaten Akhenaten:
Every year a slightly new strain and a doomsday prediction. Every year it blows over, with or without a vaccination. I don't think vaccination is a dirty word. I don't think people shouldn't be vaccinated. If I were over 55 or had children I would probably vaccinate. But I'm not taking a 1 in 3 chance by not vaccinating. The suggestion is laughable. At least it is for anyone with a memory that stretches back more than 12 months.

...now you are forced to ignore it. Please explain how this is 'anti-vaxx'?

If you're only going to cut and paste half sentences then you're only going to reinforce the conclusion that you need to lie.

Your entire contributions to this thread have been less about informing people and more about attacking people. It is obvious i am not 'anit-vaxx' and you know this but because of your foolish pride you need to keep this going on and on and on.

Please look at the quote above which was addressed to you yesterday and explain how that's 'anit-vaxx' or finally admit you don't knwo what you're talking about and you just threw that out there as a personal attack.

BTW - whatever happened to the OTHER post you lied and attributed to me?

No. When someone posts this to you:

And you continue to try and browbeat them by calling them anti-vaxx and any other derogitory word that's YOU trolling. Not me.

BTW you also accused me here:
$1:
2009-10-27, 12:10:24 - You made a post about the influenza vaccine saying "no thanks"

Where's that post?

Fair enough regina.

Can i get your opinion on something?

does this:

...sound to you like someone who is 'anti-vaccination'?

I can’t believe this topic has survived this long with so much misinformation and fear mongering.

As a medical former practitioner I can’t help but question the motives of anyone who would try and talk anyone out of a flu shot. Particularly with what’s happening now.

A few facts to consider.

Inoculations have been done for hundreds of years most notably in an effort to eliminate smallpox a couple of hundred years ago. It’s a proven science.
The H1N1 virus is a variant of the Spanish flu that killed millions nearly a hundred years ago.

It’s killing people who would normally be able to fight it off. The normal deaths every year from flu are those in their 80s. This one is killing young healthy children and people in their 40’s and 50’s and we don’t understand why.

It’s spreading much faster than normal seasonal flu and as a result is going to evolve/mutate in ways much quicker than we are used to.

Then I see the following positions and can’t help but shake my head.

Brenda Brenda:
So please, let me make my own choices without being called stupid. Thank you.

raydan raydan:
All those that disagree with me are idiots.

If you don’t want a shot, fine. You may have to learn to live with the consequences of those you might infect, and I have no issue with the resulting Darwin effect. If you lose one of your children or a close friend, you have no one to blame but yourself.

This isn’t the normal seasonal flu and it requires more thought than the “no big deal”, conspiracy nonsense, and certainly NOBODY has any business trying to talk any other person out of getting a shot ESPECIALLY when the reasons are complete and utter garbage.
