Here's Snopes on that solar energy angle to this story.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/conspiracy/nevada.asp

To no one's surprise, it's bogus.

Yeah, I see part of the problem as division in the U.S. between the core Conservatives and the Tea party.

Although there has never been a time where the right winged corporate elite formed the Majority or had any type of a mandate, they were usually concessionary enough to string along more of these right wing fringie groups to help them form governments. No one in the party really wanted them there, mainly because they are crazy and dangerous, but they only held a small representation overall in the party and so when we saw the odd one go off the deep end it was quickly swept under the rug. Nothing to see here, etc. And business would move on as usual.

Now that the party is so clearly divided and the prospects of having one of their own back in the house before their kids go to college begin to fade, we are actually starting to see members on the right vie for their support. It is a very dangerous position. You see, these crazy people are not the usual Bible bashing, immigration hating, tax breaks for the rich type of conservative that we have all come to loathe. This is a completely different breed.

These people do not care about things like laws, or popular support or democracy. These people come from a far more libertarian "natural Law" type of mentality. A school of thought that puts the man with the bigger stick in power.

Now we shouldn't have to discuss what is wrong with this philosophy, obviously society itself was born out of a defense to this attitude but the right, both republicans and the tea partyers are granting them an level of acceptability which sets a dangerous precedence for the future. You simply cannot allow people to pick and choose the laws they should obey and not obey. It will lead to bedlam.

Pandering to fringe groups is nothing new, it happens on both sides and is part of democracy. The belief that everyone has a voice is true, regardless of how outside that voice is from the mainstream. In normal circumstance, their proportions are usually low enough to have to worry about.

However, making an argument for people who have overtly stated that they do not recognize the authority of the U.S. government and would rather see it torn apart than abide by it's rules is dangerous, it's dishonest, and it is intellectually irresponsible.

For Shame guys, For shame.

I'd like to think that bringing in militarized BLM agents (that STILL sounds like an oxymoron in my head) at the start of this debacle was a mistake.

Well it is backed up by sources and properly cited, so I can see why it doesn't pass the right wing smell test.

In this case only news from Alex Jones is the truth. Everything else is govt propaganda.

Yeah seems as though him and Glenn Beck are in some kind of bizarre pissing contest over this whole fiasco. You know you are in trouble when you are arguing with Glenn Beck and he is taking the left position on the issue. Also, the story did big things for Alex Jones numbers so there is a competition for viewership

I go to the site sometimes for entertainment value and to mess with the posters . Plus I think it's important to keep track of what the crazies are up to.

Rule of thumb, don't get into a pissing contest with a skunk. There are no winners.

Glenn Beck actually called him out on his bullshit and for the one and probably only time in history, I'm with Glenn Beck on this one.

I love the part with the Waco comparisons and threats from the insurrectionist supporters, all with the unstated yet thoroughly implied belief that the Branch Davidians were somehow the innocent ones in that debacle. I suppose that, seeing as they support David Koresh, I can safely assume that they also support a grown man raping adolescent girls if he claims to be a Biblical prophet, because that's exactly what Koresh was doing to the female children of his disgusting and delusional followers after the kids were handed over to him.

The ATF and Janey Reno rightfully took their lumps over Waco, especially with the overly aggressive and ham-fisted way the entire situation was handled from the beginning. But the activities of the Davidians prior to the siege, including threatening their neighbours, threatening the police, acquisition of illegal automatic firearms, and Koresh's repeated raping of adolescent girls, clearly showed that they were the ones entirely responsible for setting up and deliberately triggering the events that led to the loss of life. But the right-wing apologists for domestic anti-government terrorism will always hold the Davidians up as "homest citizens playing the David to the evil Big Government Goliath!". Yup, government = always bad, hiding behind the Bible and a bunch of other assorted pseudo-intelligent right-wing claptrap = always good.

Short of the government allowing the Branch Daviadians to do as they pleased, it's unlikely to have ended in anything other than bloodshed.

Koresh was simply a fucking lunatic.

Except to the black helicopter people. To them he was martyr for the cause. And I worry that's what's going to happen here. There's too many people on this rancher's side with guns who look like they would love nothing more than to kill a government agent.
