We looked into an all surface fleet option like the Danish but turned that down when it came up for review. I can't remember what white paper that was but it was late 90's ish. I think 98.

In all honesty we could go with our city class cruisers and AWACS like PC-3 Orion type aircraft to augment. Given our vastness that may be a good option in tandium, but we still need at least one sub per coast. There are just some things a sub can do and go that a ship can't.
