"chief" Spence says she don't need no banker to tell her what to do. well then, chief, what the fuck do you need? because look around you: your reserve looks like a fucking Manila landfill!

..if there weren't so many vulnerable children at-risk there, i'd want to tell chief Spence to go it alone and face the community's outrage by herself, seeing how she's got all the answers.. :x

Macguyver Macguyver:
At this rate we'll have all the problems solved, at one a year, in 700 years.

Being Orwellian with the language is kind of fun actually. You can only call something a problem if there's a solution. By default with no solution there's no problem. As far as this particular issue is concerned, it'll only stop being an issue on the very same day that Canada no longer exists.

Ya, since I'm not invited to the circle jerk that you and your buddies are involved in I've got to do it solo. And that is fine with me, I don't need someone else pulling my johnson to reinforce my self worth.

Apparently guys with a few thousand posts like the mutual petting - a few reach arounds and you're whole day is smiles

The reality is that in the 21st century places like Atiwhateveritis are not economically viable.

People know that im not a huge fan of the CPC, but the reality is that is it's high time for 'aboriginal' people to start taking responsibility for their own actions. That includes gettign an education, getting a job and being a part of society. For far too long Canadians have tolerated the idea that we can have thousands of people living in the middle of nowhere, collecting tax payer dollars while they add nothing to the country. Most of them dont work, dont pay taxes, dont do anything for the country that hands them billsions of dollars a year for the sake of....what?

Personally im trired of being preached at by 'aboriginals' tired of being told of on "disaster" or "ermergency" after the other. The best solution for natives these days is not more government hand-outs but buy doing what the rest of the world does. Go improve yourself, get some marketable skills other than making Dream-catchers and go to work.

Good plan, but like I said, we spend 45 cents on the dollar less on education for Aboriginal kids than we do on our own white kids.

Then you tell them to go compete? How is that possible? And given their poverty and the manner in which they are raised...that is a tough road to haul for any person.

But you are right, a solution has to involve Natives, our ideas don't work and then we get blamed even when we think we are helping. And then we're liable because we do stupid things like kidnap their kids and "manage" their lives and their land.

That isn't a balanced equation. *We* pay taxes and get back a certain amount in education spending, then spend an additional 45 cents on the dollar per child for reserve education. Natives pay no taxes, but they still get the benefits.

You don't get neg repped here because people disagree with your ideas. Plenty of members here have disagreed on topics that have become rather heated, yet neg reps aren't handed out. You and one other get it because most people here think............ you're assholes.

Show me your numbers.

In the event that your numbers are correct, does throwing more money into education work?

Highly doubt it.

Throwing money into the schools means SFA if the kids are always skipping. You'll reach the handful whose parents take an active role in their kids lives. When I was up north, I did most of my parent teacher meetings in the RCMP holding cells on the weekends, when I did shifts as a guard.

Maybe they need to look at how they are spending the funds that go into FN schooling rather than pumping more cash in.

When I was in High School, the students at the FN "transitional school" were actually paid to attend class. Don't bother to read that last part twice, you read it right the first time.

Who wants to bet that those funds came out of the "educational dollars"?

When I was in high School we had MacKay residence in town. Many of the kids that stayed there were from Pukatawagan and other northern Manitoba bands. They received the same schooling as the rest of us...if they chose to show up. they only ate and slept at the residence and went to the same school as the rest of us.
