Yogi Yogi:
As of last week, the EU's anti-piracy naval force said pirates were holding a total of 31 vessels and 688 hostages.

And this has been an 'industry' for how long??? I can't help but think that there is 'an underlying political agenda' with this situation. I mean, just look at how fast the worlds govts react to and do their damndest to eliminate other terrorist threats and actions! If any OIL was anywhere in this equation....

You are right piracy is hardly new, but it used to be that it was a lot cheaper to pay the occasional pirate ransom that to go in with a naval force and do something about it. The problem in all the centuries is that the pirate activity will increase as they pay off the pirates. The pay off will eventually become so great that nations mercantile are eventually forced to take military action.

The 'underlying political agenda' then as now is to what is cheaper. Now that the pirates feel they are safe in attacking children I think we have reached the point where now as then it is time to act.

Hunt them down, eliminate them and those who give them support.

Shoot, that's easy. There seems to be a few people on this site we can start with.

Just curious, can you write a list?))

As long as I'm not on the list. I wear the eye patch because it turns my wife on, notto show support for pirates.

If there was a case to be made the evidence can be found in this thread:

current-events-f59/shipping-veteran-on-pirate-problem-sink-their-boats-with-all-hands-t94383.html

Selected quotes/evidence from that thread...

romanP romanP:
Somalian piracy is a symptom of a lack of government and poisoned fishing waters. Instead of killing more people, how about solving the problem that created the symptom?

romanP romanP:
It has very little to do with that specific incident, and much more to do with the political climate in Somalia that led to it happening, mixed with several countries dumping toxic waste on Somalia's shore.

These pirates used to be fishermen. With their industry poisoned, and with no one to help them do anything about their own livelihood, why is anyone surprised that they've taken matters into their own hands?

You know, as I went through it the only person actively supporting these mutts was romanP (aka IceOwl).

In his defense, I'm not so sure he actually sympathizes with them, it's probably more the effect of his general philosophy that 'any enemy of Western Civilization is a friend of mine!'

I can't wait for the usual suspects to come to the defence of these poor, oppressed pirates.

Sheps idea seems to be the best solution.

Can't we misunderstand them and kill them, too?

Good, then there is no need to spend taxpayer money to go after them.

have to disagree with you here. The children, ranging in age from 12 - 16, shouldn't pay the price for their parents stupidity. they deserve a chance of rescue, seeing as life has already fucked them over giving them two retards for parents, who took them into filth infested waters.

And we saw what happened when they attempted a rescue on the last private yacht. Better to pay the ransom, then think about what to do about this scourge. But with numbnuts like these people there's little that can be done. Piracy is all over the place - Indonesia, Thailand, etc. Probably never eradicate it completely. Really it's no different than kidnapping on land - that's a booming business too.

If they are ransomed out, I hope Denmark gets a judgement on the parents to repay it.
