It's not a physical wall, but I miss the very open open borders before 9-11. In the "old" days the border in many places was as open as going from US State to US State. These days are a lot different. One is now very feel aware of crossing an International Border.

In the back of your mind you knew you were crossing a border, but it didn't feel like a border. I fell a kinship with Canada the new borders policies clash with that a bit.

I crossed from Buffalo to Niagara Falls in 1987 just to see the Canadian (and prettier side) of the falls and then crossed back about two hours later.

I then spent five hours being searched and harassed by the Border Patrol for being a single male who crossed the border and then came back without an explanation that made them happy.

In subsequent years I've tended to avoid customs at the border whenever possible. It's not Canada but the US side that has made me very aware of the border since 1987.

I know there's rural places where it used to be friendly, but in my experience crossing into the US has consistently been unpleasant.

I never had that problem perhaps I was just very lucky for many years.

I'm the first one to piss and moan about the Mexican drug Cartels, butit's American Drug addicts that make the drug business recession proof.

I would like to see I stronger border on the American side to keep the drugs (and the Illegal. aliens at home.

two separate issues with only a minor association, ie cartels, illegal aliens. most illegal aliens are coming to the usa to work.

What's this about a US-Canada border wall?

No doubt, I went to California in 1996 and it was a breeze crossing the border and the agent was incredibly friendly. When I crossed the exact same border crossing in 2003 to go to Arizona/Colorado (to see Mesa Verde - AMAZING BTW), I got grilled for 30 minutes on my occupation, destination, where I was planning on staying, etc.

I haven't crossed the border by car since then...

I once crossed the border and the Border/Customs was simply the guard saying " Good Evening" on the American Side where the Canadian was infinituly more grueling "Are you an American?". It was great.

These days......
