BartSimpson BartSimpson:
I wish you'd get your own radio talk show. Really, for all your complaining about FOX News and Beck and etc. you sound just like them, but with a different POV is all. That said, you'd probably be a success at it. And I do mean this quite seriously. Air America failed because, frankly, that network was an immense bore. Mayhaps you could make a go of it and become one of those rich bastards you so detest. [B-o]

At the very least you should start a blog, if you haven't already.

You're so ignorantly obtuse and one-note you're hardly worth responding to anymore. If you don't like my critique of your Koran-burning, conspiracy-spreading, take-an-assault-rifle-to-the-rally-where-President-Obama-is-speaking, faux-patriot hatemongering buddies, you have a way out if I bother you so much. Put me on your ignore list. I'd prefer it if you did anyway. That way I could talk to the other adults around here peacefully without getting distracted by some repellent goof, such as yourself, who's been stuck in crybaby mode since November of 2008.

They started this business by meeting with Harper about it. If they had just applied for this exemption and failed, no one would have cared. But given their actions, sure I can (and will) blame them.

They did apply and fail. Can you show me the info that says Harper has overturned this process. I'm not even sure why we're arguing about whether they are mandatory or not. I don't care. My concern is the people that would have this station shut down, period. What are they afraid of?

No one has said that Harper overturned anything. The anger over this issue is directed at Sun TV, not Harper or the Conservatives.

The issue here is that they appeared to have met with Harper to overturn the decision (whether he decided not to prior to this blowing up in the media is unknown - however, my guess is he was smart enough to say no all by himself).

That's the issue, that a right leaning news network went to a right leaning government to overturn a decision that government bureaucracy made.

That is flat out wrong (just as if Al-Jazzera had met with Chretien or Martin to appeal a similar decision while they were in office).

People aren't 'afraid' of Sun TV, they are rightly critical of the underhanded methods they used to try and circumvent the CRTC - whose rules every other TV station has to abide by.

Thanos, as hard as it is for you to grasp this, I was complimenting you.

You're probably the most entertaining poster on this forum these days and while I may not agree with your political slant, I do recognize that you have a talent for spinning a phrase. I may regret it some day, but I really do mean to encourage you to seek a broader audience for what is really some great punditry.

R=UP

Lord knows I'd read it!

Your posts (combined with the frothy-mouthed Bales avatar) conjure up and image of teetering on the edge between sanity and insanity. With your use of profanity at just the right moments, you come off as a cross between Eddie Murphy (the one from the 80s, not Dr. Doolittle) and Jon Stewart.

If that is the only problem with this channel I can accept that. I am fully in agreement that we shouldn't be forced to subscribe to any channel, and I do mean ANY. Perhaps that is Margaret Atwoods position now, that she is against a mandatory subscription.

Uh huh. Let my cable company offer it for $2.95 per month just like Al Jazeera. I'd be fine with that. But not SUN TV. They want it up there in the tiered packages right away.

I guess they just want the same treatment as the CBC.

CBC, CTV, Global, CHUM / A-Channel or whatever it's called in the various provinces. These are all established, competetive networks. SUN TV wants a free ticket straight ot the head of the line. They don't want to work for it. They want the Government to do their work for them. They want a hand-out. They want everything they'll presumably rail against in their programming, and seem utterly oblivious to the irony.

       Oh please, they are just trying to get any advantage they can. You can't blame a media company for doing that. It didn't work and they were denied.

The problem here isn't that they wanted an advantage (what business doesn't), it's that it appeared that they tried to get the ruling overturned by appealing to the government (which, surprise, surprise is of the same ideological bent as themselves).

They started this business by meeting with Harper about it. If they had just applied for this exemption and failed, no one would have cared. But given their actions, sure I can (and will) blame them.

Precisely.

$5.95 a month. Anyone who wants to pay for news that's admittedly biased should shell out a stupidity tax.
I'm still fighting with the old lady to shut the fucking dish off. I don't want to pay AND watch 10x as many commercials as the free networks and the same three shows over and over all fucking weekend. They cn stuff HIST, DISC, GEOG, BRAVO, A&E, SHOWCASE, HBO Canada up their ass along with SUN TV after this summer's sorry excuse for fare.
