I wonder if they would be complaining if they got a speeding ticket? After all, the cell phone law is essentially the same thing, a law enacted to make the roads safer.

Sorry, but they broke the law and now they need to deal with the consequences of your actions.

Still, I do admit that the officer in question could have been nicer about the whole thing.

fair enough but I guess every person racing there daughter or son to the hospital should be pulled over for speeding, then when they dont stop, you know cause of the dying and all, they should also be charged for trying to evade police, refusing to pull over, public endagerment etc...funny though...they never get charged with all that.

yes law was broken but really? , she must have been on her period

Sorry, but the "I'm racing my pregnant wife to the hospital" argument is a specious one.

Given that most women have labour for at least several hours, there should be zero reason to race to the hospital. Anyone who has gone through a pre-natal class knows that labour starts with contractions as far apart as several hours. You're supposed to go in when they get steady and come every 15 minutes or so.

Even then, labour can take hours and hours longer (the shortest labour I've ever heard of was around five hours - although of course I'm sure there are rare exceptions that are quicker). If you can't make it to the hospital in time to deliver your child properly, either you're monumentally dense, a really slow driver, or live 10 hours away from a hospital.

I got pulled over for speeding rushing to the hospital during a medical emergency. I told him I was going to the hospital and why, he saw I wasn't bullshitting, told me to follow him, hopped in his cruiser, hit the lights and siren and escorted me right to the emerg.
Sorry, but a dead friend's funeral is a sad excuse to endanger other people's lives or health. But if it's a real emergency, you'd be surprised at how understanding and quick to react the police are... IF you pull over.
And sorry again but going to a funeral HARDLY compares to the fear in a parent when their child is suffering a medical crisis.
And you DO realize the amount of bullshit excuses the police hear when they pull people over. Maybe you feel the cops had nothing better to do than escort the girls to the service to verify their story?
Sure, the cop could have been nicer about it, by saving her laughter until AFTER the girls pulled away.
And Warmington does a GREAT job of comparing the police doing their job to the justice system NOT doing their's. A cop writing a ticket has fuck all to do with some pinhead judge letting vicious criminals off the hook.

I gotta think two things her.
1. Editorialize much Mr. Reporter
2. The cop could/should have shown some compassion. though I find it hard to believe that 1 girl speaks a language native to her culture and another doesn't. They should have followed the procession and would have made it on time with everyone else.

If you honestly feel the need to speed to a hospital to get a family member there, then call an ambulance.

Not much point in speeding a family member into oncoming traffic or a utility pole in your driving panic.

Well said. If it is truly a life or death thing, call an ambulance complete with paramedics.

2Cdo,

You've struck a nerve with me, not you fault but you have to bare with me while i vent.

If you live in Elkford, BC, the trauma center was closed.

So you could take you child to Sparwood, but the hospital was closed,

so you can take your child to Fernie hospital but only if its an emergency because they shut down the operating rooms,

of course Cranbrook received a brand new wing to their hospital, but guess what? the new wing didn't add a single bed to their facilities.

So if you are in Elkford, you can call the ambulance if you like, but the ambulance is dispatched from Fernie and it has to drive all the way to Elkford just to pick up your child and bring them back to Fernie, possibly Cranbrook.

But theres good news, Calgary's STARS air ambulance can get to you in about the same amount of time that it takes them to reach a person in the Kananaskis, but they are not allowed to take your child back to Calgary's children hospital if Kelowna's or Vancouver's facilities offer the same capabilities.

In case you haven't figured it out, I have close friends that live in the Elkford area, and they can and WILL drive their own vehicles without stopping and without apologies if their child's life is at risk.

" 911 operator, please be advised that the child will be in a vehicle doing 120 towards them, and as long as she is breathing, I'm not stopping unless I need help.....please keep up"
